Should I go Lithium?

I have 370w solar panel, a Sterling B2B unit & 3 x 110Ah leisure batteries - as for consumption we have a Dometic CRX65 compressor fridge, all LED lights & heatsource heater. . . Should I change to lithium battery (batteries) ???

If your present system is coping with your use pattern probably not worth it. Main advantage with Lithium is the faster charge rate.

As & when my 2 Banner (sorry Lenny HB ) lead acid batteries finally expire, I might consider it then... but perhaps not as my current set up seems to cope with my needs

Lithium batteries are better in every way compared to Lead batteries.

However, the upfront cost is still prohibitive. It really comes down to can you afford them, can you warrant the upfront expense. Really is just a personal decision.

If you could do with around an extra 50kg of payload - buy lithium.
If your old batteries are on their way out consider replacing them with lithium

Running the fridge will be an advantage of power over weight, but if your old batteries are still perforning you can save a few bob till they expire

Vikdikdok If real need is not the driver dont waste the precious resource that is your new batteries, if you wait until they are at end of life lithiums will have come down in price and not such a cost to you or mother earth.
Or buy now and donate your pb batteries to a deserving funster. Damn i just bought a new battery, well forget that idea then

I love the lithium batteries I fitted. However the only thing that justified them for me was my lead acids needed replacing.

They are lighter, charge faster, will last longer and have nearly double the capacity but were expensive for the privilege.

Sell your lead acids, life is too short for FOMO. ;-)

Fear of Missing Out.

Given the falling price of lithium leisure batteries, I think it’s a no-brainer for when the questionable Banner AGMS which came with the van start to fail. We already have B2B & solar which can be set up for it.

If your current (sic!) setup is fine for how you use it, unless you really need the extra payload I don't see the point of laying out a grand plus all the hassle of adapting (or even replacing) controllers etc.

IMO there's too much "must have" around these days in every walk of life. Manufacturers are always introducing things that you didn't realise you "needed".

Mind, I can talk - over the last 6 months I've "invested" over a grand just to enable me to play a computer game........................................... And there's still loads more I could spend on "improving" it!
