Lots of commentary about folk rushing back to the shopping malls as soon as they open.

Bulldoze the malls, I say, and replace with parks with trees.

Can you tell I’m a male? :)

We have a small shopping centre near us, (hate americanisations the word mOm especially) not a lot of choice but it was handy. the shops inside are all controlling customers, however the last time i went (pharmacy no choice) the centre management were not controling numbers going in. Asked pharmacist to arrange for 3 months supply to be delivered and have not been back since, feel really sorry for the fish stall and butcher, just didn't feel safe going in again.

I agree ... and I'm female! :giggle:

That's it, the Intu Metro Centre, Gateshead.

When my dad (he was Polish) was learning English in the late 40s, early 50s he somehow got it into his head that when there was a question mark at the end of a sentence you had to say the words "is it?". Cue classics that had us laughing as kids like "what for bloody hells going on here then, is it?" or "what's the time, is it?". There were dozens of others but he couldn't quite stop doing it.

Fast forwards to today and maybe Dad was a trailblazer without knowing it. I really can't stand the current trend for youths to finish sentences with "innit?". You only have to watch the current stupid Tesco advert for Aunties Scumbag Chicken or some such thing to see what I mean. It's everywhere, Wassup, innit?, not good this Corona thing innit etc., etc., Dad beat them to it by 60 years!

Frightful places. Defo bulldoze them.

Agree 100%.

And they are all the same with the same overpriced "fashion" outlets and other shops that sell stuff no one wants or needs ........ shops with pharmacy names that don't do prescriptions or medicines ...... shops that insist the phone I have is old fashioned and needs replacing with a model that costs mega-£s and has "must haves" I have done without and can still do without ....... costly coffee shops ......... I would go on but it is raising my blood pressure :)

But surely as a true Male you would replace them with Motor bike shops and PC World outlets (I would have gone with Maplin's but am still mourning its passing:cry:) with the obligatory hostilery next to each one of course.

Even as a female I miss Maplin's. Also there is nothing wrong with Curry's/PCWorld ..... always fun to get the staff confused by asking questions when you know the answer and they don't :)

It's a pity the shops we really want and need can't afford the rent or rates in these shopping nests. But then perhaps I don't fit the profile of the people they want in their conglomerate of emporia.

What’s this malls word? We are not Americans thank god. They are shopping centres. I still don’t like them though.

Sure. Maybe golf shops too? I’ve yet to find a shop in a shopping centre/mall that sells aeroplanes, or even motorhomes :)

I think that the reason that these centres do not sell utility items is that the rents are priced so high that the margins on those items will not sustain the rents, whereas the fashion market can sustain them - look at the 'sales' where there is 50% off, but I bet they are not selling at a loss.

Some would say 'A woman and her man's money are easily parted'

That last sentence does not apply to my Basia, because she struggled in Communist Poland after her husband's death to bring up two teenage kids and had to juggle 2-3 jobs to do it. If she comes back from the S/market with 4 items(non-perishable) when we need just one, I know is because they are on offer, usually 30-50% discount. Fortunaely these days when she says this item is expensive(usually a piece of hardware) I am in a position to say buy it I will give you the money, so she does not have to worry any more, which gives me great satisfaction that getting together has made her life easy - one of the values of money.

I agree my fav question when offered the additional guarantee is 'do I need one is it such rubbish that you don't expect it to las more than 2 years?'
I enjoy the reaction everytime :giggler:
