Knowing Paddywack and andy63 have sea kayaked Shetland, I was going to message both privately to ask the question, then thought an open ‘shout out’ might get even more feedback and be useful to anyone searching in future.

We’re looking at a couple of weeks on Shetland in May 2020 and are happy to use a mixture of official sites and wild camping spots, but would like easy and close proximity to launch points, preferably without having to drive to them.

TIA

are you were n the dreaded Facebook? If so join Scottish Motorhome Wildcampers group and you might get advice there. Also irnbru ?

Ken, I'll post up a paid site & CL map of Shetland when I get back from this trip. It'll be hand annotated like the one I posted on my main Shetland thread and it will include a couple of extra locations which will come on-line next year.

All the best,

Andrew

A perfect spot with hook up and launching for a sheltered paddle is Bridge end OEC. Similar setup and cost is available at most of the marinas and some of the Bods.

For wild camping spots next to launch spots most of the get ins for the classic trips would be ok for a quiet night, I don't want to publish them here as then there won't be any parking spaces for paddlers! Think Bamburgh.

It would be worth contacting Shetland Kayak Club - they're often after competent company.
