Shengen Zone

Sorry if I am being naive about this but why do we not, as a country, join the Shengen Zone as Switzerland, Norway and Finland have.
This would eliminate the 90/180 rule for us and not tie us to EU beaurocracy per se.
If I have got this wrong please advise but if not, I would be quite happy to start a petition to get the ball rolling.

Yes free movement would be great.
But a thorn in the side is we did not join when IN the EU and the whole argument about our departure was about free movement Of EU citizen’s, so could be a non starter.
I stand to be corrected.

The UK was not in Schengen even when they were in the EU, nor did they take on the single European currency...so I cannot see the reason to start a petition now....but if you feel it may benefit you might get some support.
