Sorry if this is naive but why don’t we, as a country, apply to join the Shengen Zone.
We would then not be restricted to the 90/180 rule, not have to follow all the EU beaurocracy and be more like Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
Or have I missed something?
I will start a petition if many agree.

The schengen zone means freedom of movement to all. To have that the UK must agree to EU controls and that is likely to involve rejoining the EU.

I don't think what I'm about to write is political but is a neutral statement of what the situation was in is now.
Yes we could have been like Norway and this was totally an option when May and Johnson were negotiating the terms of our exit and we could have been in what is called the European Economic Area i.e. a free trade area with the EU but not a full member as well as being in Schengen. But this was totally rejected by Theresa May and then Boris as being BINA - Brexit in Name Only.
I don't think I'm being particularly political when I say that there is zero chance of Boris or any other likely conservative prime minister agreeing to this. Bear in mind that Schengen is all about free movement between members and I don't think its controversial to say that at the moment this is anathema to the conservatives and probably most people who voted for Brexit and is likely to be for a very long time.

I’m up for that

Incredible question I can’t work out if the OP is just pretending to be innocent/naive with all that’s been debated over the last few years on here.

It’s a bit like going into a Muslim mosque and saying “Can you eat pork if someone else kills it”
To be fair, the OP has only made less than 10 posts, perhaps they have read even less than that number ...

Because basically that is what the 2016 vote was about. No free movement. Unless you are an illegal.

The U.K. has never, ever been part of Shengen. Why start now?

So slightly off topic !

Just wondering who will pick up the bill to restore the Ukraine, if and when the war ends.

After all, the EU is allowing the Ukraine a fast track membership !?
Ukraine itself trough its natural resources, once the west companies will get in to rebuild, they will devour it’s assets. Ukraine has resources that’s why it’s worth defending.

There is some consideration within the EU about using confiscated Russian resources.

Maybe Ukraine itself, funded by ridiculously unaffordable loans with the usual neo-lib conditions from the IMF and World Bank. In the meantime, just think of the profits that will be made by the multi nationals that will pile in to do the building etc. No such thing as a war that doesn't make someone a lot of money and as far as the EU, USA etc are concerned, this one is near perfect since none of their forces are at risk.
