They all do it.
Good initial offer to get you on the hook then start finding imaginary faults.
They hope, because you contacted them, you are desperate for a quick sale so offer stupid money.

I found the initial quotes before they saw the van less than the trade in we had been offered. One company said it would take "an age" to sell but when we did trade it in it sold in less than a week. I'd have to be desperate to use one of these companies.

Another month or so the market will be starting to gather pace why not advertise it on here a lot of people value meeting the previous owner! Sorry to hear about your circumstances if its too much hassle at the moment maybe a local funster would help you to sell it

I have experienced this myself and also seen similar happen with a well known car buying website too!! Best to always get a good underwrite from a main dealer as a lot of these companies plan on the customer wanting a quick hassle free sale with a ridiculous price offered after they have chipped away at it! :worried:

I would always try to sell privately first especially if its a relatively cheap van why not!

I sold my caravan through one.

Before they quoted I knew roughly the trade value and I got a quote slightly over trade over the phone.

When the surveyor called at the site to complete the deal he arrived in a 4wd, looked around the van and only noticed some slight damp in the washroom area. He called his boss who lowered the offer a bit but when I said I'd leave it he upped the offer to nearly the trade and paid me there and then.

I knew he didn't want to waste a round trip so stuck out. Overall I was quite pleased with the transaction rather than have a whole oad of tyre-kickers waste my time on a private sale.

I sold my last van through an online brokerage company, they ask you what you want for it, put their bit on top and do all the rest. They were very efficient, and maybe I was lucky but my van sold in a week and I got over 15% more than the trade-in offered, and that was after they had taken their cut! Not sure if I can name them so put this bit separate- Motorhome depot

Our friends sold their a class Pilote through one, and was very surprised they had it up for £6000 more than they excepted, ;) I wasn't surprised.
Wait until spring and you will sell it. (y) Bob.

I think theres abig difference between an agent and a "we buy any motorhome" setup.
