GOOD morning ladies and gentlemen.
My MOT is up in 3 weeks and I've just heard it will fail due to the active seatbelt and airbag red light being on.
Cheryl and I were happily driving home from a weekend away then the red light decided to play up.
We have a dethleffs Trend A Class on a 66 plate.

I have looked at the fuses and read through the manual book (of which I was losing the will to live)
Any kind of information will be greatly appreciated.
Phil Wheddon.

Hi good morning.
What chassis is it a Fiat.
And what year. It is quite likely to be the airbag ecu which is a known issue on fiat.
Depending on what is the problem with the ecu it may be able to be repaired.

Try searching the forum for airbag ecu failure and you will find lots of advice and the simple procedure to remove the ecu and where to get it repaired.

Has it been hooked up to a diagnosis machine? Should have some codes to tell you what the issue is, maybe it was just a glitch that can be reset.

Mine did this - I was actually on the way to the MOT test appointment! They had to replace the ECU to resolve the problem. I was advised by the (non-Fiat) garage that it was possible that the ECU could be repaired by someone like Crashdata but there was a high likelihood that the problem would recur.

The ECU is sensitive to low battery voltage apparently and is often the cause of airbag ECU failure. About £400 to replace on Fiat/Peugeot. Has to be reprogrammed for it to be recognised. Not just a straight swap out.

This thread helped me when my airbag light came on. The multiecuscan program is easy to use. You can even download for free and simulate, but will need to pay to use for real.

We had to replace our Airbag ECU ,it's located by the left foot under a panel that contains the battery on ours,it was a right pain, sent it off to be repaired had it reinstalled and cloned to the vehicle still no good.
Thankfully a mate works for a main garage he sorted it for me,had to buy a new ECU he got it at trade price £320,fitted it and cloned it for me,this is a very common problem with Fiat/Peaugot vehicles.

Oh dear, another unlucky Funster experiencing the FIAT airbag ECU issue. :banghead:

The OP has enough time before the MOT to send the ECU module to Crashdata to see if it can be repaired, which is the cheapest option if successful (mine was). DIY removal and refitting is fairly straightforward.

Even though a 5 year old cab battery is still capable of starting the engine, a voltage drop while cranking the engine can cause the airbag ECU to go SNAFU. I replaced the cab battery in mine as a precaution.

We had this problem March last year. bought a new one from Coastal Motorhomes (EBay) for £144. Recommended by my nephew who has his own garage business and he replaced and programmed it for us.
