I have noticed that the skylight in the bedroom doesn’t have a seal ( pictures showing one with/without), is this normal to allow ventilation or missing?, as all the other skylights have one fitted. Due to the high winds recently it was quite noticeable, whistling on occasions- so any reason why I can’t fit one? - and last question any ideas where I would get one from.

Thanks in advance

That is the Mini Heki ,,.

they come with or without 'forced ventilation ' .. forced ventilation model is fitted in the bedroom as a safety feature ..

It's not supposed to have it's part of the required permanent ventilation in a motorhome.

Okay thanks both, I thought that might be the case. I will have to see how bad the whistles get then. I suppose better to leave it as factory fitted and not seal.

I had one like that and I bought some window seal in Lidl and cut it to width and stuck it in the channel.. cut down on droughts and noise when travelling… I have a vent in the shower room for permanent ventilation….

S*d that for a game of soldiers! It's ruddy 🥶 with no seal!!!

I used some draught proofing stuff (like Smiffy) and stuck it in the channel on the 'window' part, a couple of layers was needed to get the right depth but be careful as once it touches the plastic it sticks and is a b*gger to move if you need to re-align it. It makes a hell of a difference though and there's enough areas where air can get in/out for safety without freezing me (or the dogs who cower under the quilt!) in the process.

You can buy a seal for the mini Heki if your happy with the ventilation elsewhere. Easily fitted if you remove the lens. Makes a huge difference to cold draughts in winter.

I got the proper seal and sealed mine 👍🏻👍🏻

If you leave it open it stops the whistling noise.😀

We also don’t have a seal on the bedroom Heki as it’s to let out Carbon Minoxide. It a bit of a nuisance when unoccupied as we get seeds and small leaves blowing in on high winds. When the Motorhome is occupied, I always have it on breather and only close it when we move offsite. We do have a bedroom door though so can keep it warm where we sit.

I think I’ve got exactly the same model as you, E Line 50. Mine is the same, no seal on the bedroom one. The one in the toilet and the centre bathroom one do have seals. Never noticed before you posted this.

It would make more sense to have the one in the washrooms without seals as that area's more likely to get steamy unlike the bedroom (not in that way you smutty lot!!!! ) so would allow it to vent of steam from the shower thus less likely to have mould etc ... maybe they don't like having a draught up their :moon2: regions when showering or contemplating though? :giggle:

The one in the shower does seem to have an internal open vent, so my thinking is that this should be sufficient ventilation?

Noted by Carthago that the skylight above the bed has no seal to allow fresh air into the van- above the bed because that is where you are sleeping - so reducing the risk from carbon monoxide poisoning -the shower area you can decide wether to open it or not - - removing a seal should remove this choice.

All Carthago are the same I think and a crap idea IMHO.
I cut some aluminium foil insulation down to size for all of our roof lights and it makes huge difference in Winter. Bedroom rooflight still flaps in the breeze but no draught now.

seals direct in new milton Hampshire have vast stocks of all these sorts of seals and do mail order direct or they sell on ebay. Ihave no connection other than being a long standing customer. Great small local business

I agree, I have pads for our skylights too, I also use them in sunny weather during the day and peg them to the open roof light to keep the sun out.

Ventilation options explained.

Motorhomes should be non-ventílated
