Planning first 10 day tour of Bonnie Scotland in new MH. Can anyone recommend an app or good old fashioned book that lists suggested wild camps and established tour sites? For Ireland/ Northern Ireland there is the great app motorhomeireland...anything like that for Scotland?
Ach aye the noo. Thanks in anticipation.

Campercontact, Park4Nite, SearchforSites apps all have their supporters. There's probably something on Facebook too, but I don't use it. Just remember the rules!

Thanks for the info on Ireland by the way - going next month, will try it out.

thanks TerryL... motorhomeireland App subscription, think it’s £5 a year, is worth paying to open up the app to a lot more sites than the free version.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, the western isles council, are now asking visitors to the outer isles to ensure that they pre-book campsites before getting on the ferry. CalMac have a similar message on their website. Apparently not all campsites are open and the isles are crowded.

We have just come back over from the Hebrides and the only thing that Calmac strongly suggested was to pre book all the ferries as capacity is reduced. No mention was made about campsites.
But, it does seem that not all sites on Lewis and Harris are open. We were going to Uig Sands ( Ardroil Beach) but it is blocked off. Only Cdp and fresh water is still open with a donation suggested. Well worth it !!!!. We had come round from Cliff Beach and definitely needed this facility. Reef beach campsite was closed.
Hushinis building is closed, but the Cdp and water is available for £2 donation. The top parking area with the hookups is closed.
I don’t think it’s as bad as you go South onto the Uists and Barra. Although we did book sites on both as backups.

Also just back on Sunday after 9 days on the Hebrides. Didn’t find it particularly busy. We used ferries that we hadn’t booked, turned up and joined unbooked queue. None were full. We had 2 nights at Laxdale on Stornaway which we booked it was very quiet both nights. Garry Beach north of Tolsta had loads of space. then just winged our way south to Barra and Vatersay. Found a great west Harris trust spot at Luskentyre. You can’t book for that. Had Garynamonie beach car park to ourselves , you can’t book that either.Plenty spots on Vatersay available. All sites were open on Barra and Plenty free spaces. I really can’t see what the problem is. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Yet again Covid just being used as an excuse by the few who don’t like visitors. our ferry back from Castlebay to Oban on Sunday was almost empty.

Hi,

We use searchforsites and almost always double check reviews with park4night, some other parking site if we're going to do an off site park up. We like as much feedback about a place as we can get about noise, over use, upsetting locals, dog walks, wildlife etc etc.

Sites are much easier but half the fun in Scotland is finding those tucked away 'special' places.

We found the west coast to be exceptional for scenery and almost everything else.....just don't panic when you find single track roads going to many of the best places. We soon discovered you can always see the next passing place from the one you are in!

Good Luck.
