Hi all, I need help, as the title suggests the satellite dish is not parking in its orginal position.

The other day the dish was switched on, the dish started to raise when there was sudden bang. The dish had dropped back down, at the same time the dish was also trying to rotate, the dish jammed against the aircon unit. Power was immediately turned off. On inspection the two main bolts that hold the arm, had worked loose. Bolts tighted up, dish working again. However ...I've noticed the dish is not parking in its original position and is sitting slightly on the air con unit. I've spoken to, two engineers, who do not have an answer. The dish is a Antarion G4, surely they all have a similarly workings. The one engineer suggested, loosen the two main bolts, and allow the dish to rotate to see if it will park up in its correct location. Doing this only made the dish keep on going round and round. I had to tighten the bolts to allow the dish to park. Any advice and help will of be of great help.

Thanks

Mark

Sounds like your dish is not "parking" but the electronics are doing their job and stopping damage. Does the dish stop when it finds your satellite?

Loosen bolts, turn dish on then off after a few seconds. When all noise stops tighten bolts. If the parking position switches are doing their jobs the innards and gearing will be in the correct parking position so locking the dish by tightening the bolts will put it to rights. If this doesn't work I'd suspect internal problems.

Had this happen twice. On both occasions had to have the parking position switches reset - they are damaged/moved quite easily.

Eventually ditched the b----y thing when the wind flipped the dish, damaging the gears. We don't watch telly anyway!

Thank you for the ideas. However having loosen the bolts and allowing the dish to travel up and down and round and round and park up, didn't sort it out. Hence why I'm asking for help. I'm hoping for some one who knows how to reset the park postion.

The park position is preset by limit switches or similar inside the unit. Allowing the innards to park then locking the dish by tightening the bolts should leave it parked correctly. If it doesn't it is very likely attention to the innards is required. Incidentally with the bolts released the dish shouldn't lift whilst the innards are parking. It will however rotate.

Thanks Tony G7GOC.

I had to manually lift the dish to allow it to rotate so that it didn't get locked up against the air con unit.

Allowing to rotate a couple of times and stop and tighting up the bolts once parked didn't have the dish park in its original position.

I noticed you said turn the dish on and off after a few seconds, would this make any difference rather than allowing to rotate and then park up.

Thanks Mark

From what I was told when my dish was "repaired" if the dish jamss anywhere it upsets the limiter and parking sensors. Although not a big job it likely will need a professiional with the right tools etc.

Had two separate engineers, both charged £50.

It wouldn't make any difference as long as the innards had time to move then return to the travel position. Unfortunately it looks like something is amiss inside the unit as suggested by @TerryL.
