Safefill wont fill

In France at the moment, need gas so went to the pump, fitted the French adapter, opened the gas bottle and tried to fill but the gas escapes from between the adapter and the bottle. I have tightened it as tight as I can and it seems all the way on.
Any ideas?

Just to say I have filled it in the uk before and it was fine, first time using the French adapter

It is usually the adapter not tight enough
If the bottle is open, tightening the adapter should make it leak when it hits the bottle valve
Is the bottle tap fully before you try to fill your bottle?

Tap was fully open but no gas was coming out of the adapter, maybe a faulty adapter or not tight enough then.

there is a definative way of fixing …so that the handle stays on!!!before you can fill!!

The handle stayed on fine but the gas came out where the adapter joined the bottle. Just had another look at it was maybe cross threaded

Just check that it has an O ring fitted to the male threaded portion too ?

Thanks Jock but it has. It looks like it's a right hand thread in the adapter but the pigtail is opposite thread?

Safefill adapters are left-hand thread. Others, Gaslow etc, are right-hand thread.

It's law at filling stations that means they make them that awkward it's at least 5 tries before it works..

Make sure the O ring is big enough to make a seal. I bought a set off ebay when I didn’t know any better and the O rings were all miles too small, ie, not thick enough. Just a thought…..

As above you seem to have the wrong adapter - Safefill are different to Gasit etc

Yeh wrong adapter but got it sorted now. The uk extension adapter is correctly threaded, fitted that to the bottle then fitted the French one onto that.
When I went to pay for the gas I got a swearing though, said you aren't allowed to fill bottles anymore. Told them it was a safefill bit don't think they understood.
