A question for about the above, have any of you used anything other than Heng’s Rubber roof coating? I’m looking for something better as this seems very overpriced for what it is. Thanks in advance for any advice suggestions

I have seen many attempts and many different materials used on EDPM roofs none of wich look more oringininal that your Hengs, all the American treatments are expensive because A they for the best part work and B they look right
Only if your looking to refresh an aging membrane.
if your trying to waterproof one it rely is time for replacement top, new sheet and glue circa £600
or resort to the huge selection of rubber roof bodges that the UK has to offer, most do actually work but look abysmal
Cant see it up there i hear you cry, tell that to any prospective buyer

EPDM used properly on a clean roof can give a good result.

When dry it is very tough. We've used it at work on HGV's and I used it on the roof of my race van.

You can end up with it being 4-6mm thick. On my race van I had the impression you could drop a slab on it and it'd still be ok.

However. It can get dirty quickly. Twas no issue for me as I always wash the roof with the rest, even with my N&B Flair. But if you aren't able to wash the roof well once or twice a year then it needs thinkin about.

True.
The tin I used for a race van was likely @8-10kg. An RV roof would need 2-3 times as much so yes, 20-30kg added.

Bit more than a sat dish but less than an air-con unit.

Classic Bond EPDM membrane has a life in excess of 50 years. There is a building in Boston US done over 50 years ago and still going without leaks. Sold in UK at roofing merchants and, If installed properly, it will see your van out. I have done it on a 7,5T converted for bee hives.

Thanks all, no leaks so far but had coated it in Hengs, then our engineer sorted out some new solar panels for us and the roof where the old panels were is decidedly dodgy with bracket holes etc. So thought would recover but wasn’t that impressed with Hengs as it’s really difficult to get it clean. Does the job but seems to make the dirt cling on for dear life. And is quite expensive.

A spray all over with Dettol mould&mildew works wonders... Leave for half a day then wash off.

In my avatar the air-con unit is nice and white. First thing that morning it was dirty/green/brown

But, if you spray that type of stuff liberally;
a) gloves and b) practice holding your breath

We changed our Rv rubber roof covering, not because of any water ingress but it had lost its white UV coverage.

Full kits from USA, depends on size around £600. We did the full job with 6 new solar panels for say £2k.

Rv dealers quoted between 10-12 k.
