Looking for advice on this trip.
I'm going to Holland start of October then onto Munich.
I'm then looking to go to Spain and Portugal..if possible..
I'm out on 4/10 and due back 16/12.
My preference would be across France to Biarritz, then along the coast through Bilbao and San Sebastian, down to Portugal and then around Spain.. particularly Granada,Seville, Valencia and Barcelona..so anti clockwise I suppose ..
Look forward to advice from funsters ...

To flesh it out a bit..
Visiting friends in Zwolle, Munich then near Stuttgart... I've got an old 2.8 Fiat Hymer which struggles up hills hence looking for flattish terrain..I have Bip and Go so happy to use tolls..but not too many 😉
Have you considered a remap. Made a big difference to a previous motorhome with the 2.8JTD.

Driving in Spain is a very easy and rewarding experience, avoiding the mountains is very easy to plan...however be aware that as this is a very hilly country, avoiding steep inclines would be more of a challenge.....so expect major roads with slow lanes for slower traffic...plan for cooler conditions in places...
We are in the south part of Sierra de la Demanda just now...we woke to 3°c this morning...3 days ago we had temperatures of 28° in the afternoon....a big varied country in so many ways...You should have fun..👍😃🇪🇦

Luckily Spain tolls are almost non existent now. A friend just recently came home from Spain and said they didn’t pay any.

Correct...but the Spanish Government have plans to reintroduce a Toll Scheme in 2024..this will, if approved be widespread...and also include roads that have previously been Toll Free...we as residents hope it will be an annual Vignette type scheme rather than booths, gantries etc. That's my personal view...

Where should I look for an engine remap ?
Mines a 1999 model so may not be that clever..

From Germany you‘d need to cut into France west of Alsace (try the Mosel route). I’d then quickly cut across towards the west coast, going south of Paris. Watch out for the French Massif Central - quite a lot of VERY steep inclines there! The French tolls can add up pretty high, pretty quickly, but if you look for “N” (Route Nationale) roads they’re not too slow, though they do go through, rather than around towns. Spain is uncharted territory (as yet) for us - so good to read suggestions here.

Just google remapping near me. I had mine done by WOW tuning but about 15 years ago and that was a JTD. Not sure about the IDTD but the remapers should be able to tell you. Made a big difference on hills.

I would go down accross Millau to Perpignan 🤔 nothing to bad there there is always going to be some climbing whichever way you go😊

Just want to minimise mountain climbs as it's not very good on hills, I'm not technical but was told the 5th gear is an interim before they brought out a new 5 speed box. I'm forever working the gearbox on inclines 😞.

We have done that route towing a car trailer without any problems😊

The old 5 speed had a fair old step between 4th and 5th, they offered it with 2 choices of 5th gear and just depended what the first dealer/owner specced. There used to be a few aftermarket firms around the would swap them. It wasnt a problem with the later 6 speeds.
