I'm looking at the top of the camper van from our bedroom window, starting to collect dirt, leaves and general detritus and I'm wondering whether it would be worth fitting a roof cover as I don't really fancy climbing up there and cleaning it regularly. I don't want a full cover as I'd like to have easy access to the van so I thought a roof cover would be ideal. Does anyone have any recommendations about specifications and suppliers?

Have a look at the thread ‘Motorhome Cover’ - some good comments on there. (y)

I have been using one of these Roof cover for two years now and does the job... took metal hooks out and clip straps tightly underneath, it has survived all the storms , easy to carry up steps of lift with poles , etc

There are two specialist companies local to me that make covers for caravans and Motorhomes and will make made to measure or what you want. Both are reputable and advertise in the major club mags.
They’re called Specialist covers and Pro-tec covers.
They’re made from breathable material.
I’ve used specialist on my campervan and a family member has used pro tec in the past.
They’re both pretty much the same.

The downside:
Do you have a solar panel? If so, unless you factor this with your made to measure request, the cover will render the solar panel useless whilst fitted.

No matter how good the fitting, wind does cause the cover to move and with movement, you’ll get scratches and rubbing effect on your bodywork. Where the straps make contact with the bodywork, it takes the shine off the bodywork.

If you park in an area open to the elements, after constant wind, they can tear.

The advert says one person can put the cover on easy peasy.
What they don’t tell you is that they do it indoors or in conditions where the maximum wind is from a flies arse.
Sometimes, it was like controlling a parachute and whilst doing so, you run the risk of it dropping on the floor which then picks up grit and dirt which you then sandwich between the bodywork or roof and the cover causing scratches.

Personally, I wouldn’t bother with one unless you store it directly under where there’s a lot of pigeons crapping or trees that leak sap.
I’d put up with clearing the leaves off and washing it.
If you clean the roof and polish it with a decent product, grime will just rinse off with a hose pipe if you keep up with it.

Don't now need how to access "Motorhome Covers" as above has convinced me i wont be wanting one.

I'm not a lover of covers. I run one rear wheel onto a piece of wood, to give the van a tilt, and let gravity do the rest

Very happy with ours.

no flapping or running as it’s taught.

drive is at slight incline and I’ve put on Ramos to ensure water does not well.
