Romantic Road through Germany

I noticed on my recent trip that the Germans seem to arrive at aires/stelleplatz around mid-morning. I'd always thought that finding your spot for the night should be done around mid-afternoon. Do they drive through the night, get up very, very early or just not travel far? Seems to be a variation on the sunbed towel routine.

We did it last summer in an A class roads are fine. We were disappointed to be honest, nothing special. There are far better routes IMO.
Hi tribalbrit - that's interesting to read, are there any routes in Germany you would recommend in preference please? 🏞️

To me the Romantic Road was a bit of a disappointment, few nice towns on the route but spaced out a bit, it was also 35 degrees when we drove it last summer personally I prefer to saunter up the Mosel, Down the Rhine and into the Southern Black Forest. Or further East around Ober Bayerischer Wald on the Czech boarder, could pick up some of the Romantic Road on that journey too.

I find that, a fair bit of driving between towns, much easier on the Mosel and France you can just amble a few miles to the next village.

We liked the Alpine road more as well and the Mosel
The Black Forest area didn't really click for us, not sure why.
There is plenty to see and do wherever you end up though,

I agree with tribalbrit. We have just finished the route and were a little disappointed with scenery, but I think that’s because I had built my expectations far too high. As for the roads which was the question, they range from excellent to average, nothing really to be put off by, nothing too demanding which again led to a bit of boredom with the route. Warzburg was ok, Dinkelsbühl was nice, Rothenburg is undergoing a lot of road upgrades making the centre difficult. The park ups range from good to pretty poor, some had no water for example. The main town park ups were challenging to get in and arriving after a day of driving and sightseeing were invariably full. As an example in Rothenburg MHs were arriving at 10:00am to park up which I found difficult to understand. I am glad we did it and I wouldn’t let what I say put you off as there are some super highlights.
