HI, I am new to the forum but have had a campervan for a number of years. I am looking to buy a GlobeCar Roadscout registered in August 2017. I am confused by the road tax rules. It looks like the rules changed for motorhomes registered after 1st April 2017. The vans has a 130 engine and is plated for 3500kg, can anyone with a similar van tell me what they are paying annually for road tax ?

Hi and :welcome3:

Car tax system changed on 1 April 2017, but no significant adjustment to motorhomes/campervans such as yours.

We've got similar - bit longer than your van, but still 3500kg. Just renewed the tax at the end of June £270.

Weirdly, it costs significantly less if you have a motorhome plated at more than 3500kg.

It is all a bit strange for MH's - there's lots of detail on here if you do a search.

Enjoy your van and the FUN! (y)

Hi thanks for the quick response, good to know its £270 as I thought it might be £540. I was assuming that DVLA put Campervans and Motorhomes into the same category, so that maybe where my confusion comes from.

The higher tax rate only applied for Motorhomes with Euro 6D engines registered from 1st Sept 2019 until the budget in March 2020.
If you buy a Euro 6D one that was registered in that period you will get caught with the higher tax rate for the next 5 years.
It all changes again next March.
