We would like to include a river cruise when we visit Austria; perhaps on the Danube. Ideally the cruise should start and finish at the same location where we would leave our motorhome for the week or so.
Can any of you please advise which operators do round trips.

Following as it's something we have looked at but travel from UK is always included.

There are loads of them, just google 'European river cruises'. I think you can also do short hops, eg Vienna - Bratislava.

I’ve had the pleasure of 2 Viking River cruises and loved them, however they were from the UK and included flights. Viking sails in both directions (obviously!) but each way is a different holiday and would therefore cost twice the price!!

Thank you Beltie & Cal54. I've tried googling previously but it won't identify cruises which start and finish at the same location.
I have found Saga offering a round trip from Cologne on the Rhine and Moselle but we've done that area in the van. I might phone them to see if they will reduce the price without the transport UK to Cologne.

Don't forget to call you vans insurers most policy's don't allow you to leave the van unattended when away for more than 48 hours unless you inform them.

We've only done one river cruise, the Rhine and the Moselle. Although we flew from the UK the actual cruise started and finished at the same berth at Koln.

You can always get a train back far more reliable than ours and cheaper
Try these and tell them you want to 'make your own way' to the boat they may be helpful

I’ll keep watching this as we are also looking into it ever since we recently saw the Cruising With Jane McDonald Christmas programme where she cruised from (I think) Cologne.

If you're lucky enough to identify a passenger with the Coroanavirus onboard then you might just get a 10-week long cruise for your money instead of 2. That would be value for money.::bigsmile:

Great minds and all that ... its the first thing I thought of when I saw the opening post of this thread!

I've corresponded with SAGA and they were offering a reduction of £100 per person if we did not use their transport arrangements to and from the river cruise (that was for Cologne). It seems others such as Viking are more accustomed to this sort of request from local Germans, Austrian, French etc who want to drive to the start; and indeed for Americans "doing Europe" for whom it is one small part of their trip.
