Looking for a Flair 8000i with the drop-down bed I noticed a few for sale with cupboards above the cab rather than the bed.

I seem to remember reading a thread about retro-fitting cupboards. Probably more trouble than it's worth but does anyone know if the bed can be retro-fitted, and has anyone tried?

You would probably have to build the bed inside the MH. Next problem will be have they included the wall stiffening for the bed. Be a shame to remove it all and then find out the sides are completely different. Might as well just buy the right one.

I think as above, I know some people have taken them out but don’t know of anybody putting one in.

The only way you would know is to ask the factory if there is a difference. As for fitting the bed, the chances are that it goes in before the roof goes on. They are certainly not going to try and wiggle one through the door with all the chances of damage.

Ive seen how they re made and would suspect that they would all have the necessary strengthening to take the drop down bed.

But there are plenty out there with a drop down already fitted, are you looking at mobile.de

Checked with Polch who gave quick and helpful answers.

From sometime in 2009, all Flairs were fitted with the strengthened walls to take a drop-down bed; this can be checked from the VIN number.

Whether or not the walls were strengthened, the bed can be fitted - additional strengthening will increase the cost. Ball-park is around €12,000 and five days at the factory to fit.

Out of my budget, but may help someone else.

Is the 12k if you need the strengthening?

You need to find a good one with the bed already in John;)

jongood I think this is a case of if you need to ask the price, you can't afford it.
The reply was brief but from the way it was written it implied the estimate was without strengthening works.

As Martin suggests, the price rules it out on older vehicles.

Talking of wriggling into Clous, I've just spotted a possibility, but that's for another thread. :)
