My current Samsung is 'fragile' thinking of replacing it..

I'm thinking of another Samsung. Dual sim, big memory. Poss 5g to future proof.

Any suggestions, I'm confused between the S and A series.
Not looking at the bottom end, no looking for Apple or some obscure Chinese model..

Redmi is no longer an obscure Chinese model.
My friends and family have been using Redmi for over five years now - we have never had a problem with any of them.
I have two Redmi note 7's - one for me and the wife identically loaded just in case we lost one abroad.
My hi tech son has bought five various models over the years for his business / wife / son.
He has just bought the ultimate Redmi 10 Pro.
Just check out the spec

Same as jezport. Good phone

I have just replaced my phone, I chose a Samsung A13 duel SIM it has NFC so works with Google Pay, it does Android Auto it has 64gb but it's not 5g only cost £127

If you bite the bullet and buy one of the latest or preferably the model just before the latest S series you would not go far wrong. My S10+ which is a phone that came out in March 2019 has been supported with an Android 12 update and is still receiving security updates. Samsung are pretty good at supporting their top model phones.

For a bargain phone that ticks a lot of boxes look at the latest Motorola offerings.

I am on my forth Motorola, not because they failed but just to upgrade, my grandson still uses my second one , I still have my third one as backup , can't remember where the first one is, in a draw somewhere.
But no complaints with any of them, all under £200.

I still have and use daily my Note 9 which is a cracking phone which holds it's own well with our other phone, an iPhone 13 pro.

We've had Redmi phones for a few years now versions 7, 8 and 9 (current), hubby has the NTS version (not that he uses it!). Cost just over £100 and do everything that we want. Certainly worth a close look Dave and a fair bit cheaper than Samsung for the same performance etc.

Aren't Xiaomi affected by the Android ban the same as Huawei are?
I suspect that they are, and that perhaps they don't provide full Google android services or have a custom release of android?

My son uses One Plus phones and swears by them

What Android ban is that?

Thoroughy back up the Xaomi comments. I went with the Xaomi 10T Lite after my son recommended it. Bought mine a year ago and been brilliant, excellent battery life, very fast charge and 5G, £209 after a £40 promotion.

We have never noticed any problems with Android or Google updates.
They regularly update to the latest software.

Lot's of good stuff made by Xiaomi. At the cheaper end my wife has the A3 and I have the Poco X3.

Lots of Chinese companies banned from buying US technology including chips and software. Xiaomi was on the list. The ban was inaccurately called the Huawei ban.
