- Since 1964 Gosh that makes me feel old.
A few Funsters have been really helpful with the problems & ongoing saga we were having with the Dometic RM4 series fridge in our elderly Kon-Tiki ,but the old fridge wiring had been hacked about to one hell of a degree & I'd lost faith in it. It would work on gas but, the electrical side 230/12v created many issues, so I admitted defeat & looked for a replacement fridge.
I spotted another RM4 series fridge locally marked up for spares or repairs on Gumtree for the princely sum of £20, the seller said that "the element was faulty" so I bought it. My thinking was that even if I managed to use only the switches & wiring, I'd be on a winner.
I fitted a new 230v element (easy wee job) which I'd bought for my old fridge & the £20 fridge was up & running.
I've given it a thorough service, burner cleaned-up, new hinges on the freezer door, the interior had the usual yellowing, cleaned that off & it looks like new as well as working on all 3 systems, in fact its an upgrade as the new one has electronic ignition as opposed to the push button that my original fridge had. Result.
Today I brought the job to the brink of being finished, I changed the door panel over to suit the interior of our van, rain stopped play ,but only the exterior part of the flue to fit & its a done deal., I have a brand new flue to fit.
I've also copied the wiring from the replacement fridge & that means that my old RM4 is working perfectly now & that has made me very happy, I'll sell it on now & make a few bob to boot.
I'm feeling mighty pleased with myself as my disabilities make working on anything very difficult these days.
