Been told my 4 year old Elddis motorhome will require major surgery due to damp. All 3 sides are affected so all the inside cabinets, bathroom, wardrobe, beds ,kitchen etc need removing, interior wallboards off followed by all the wood in the SoLiD constuction. Then everything replaced and rebonded and resealed. All exterior locker doors to be removed and resealed. This amounts to,so I've been told, 2 weeks work plus cost of parts. Can anyone give me an idea of what the cost would be if this work was done had to be paid for personally .Fortunately it is under warranty

Seriously...if its under warranty do not worry yourselves. It will be done
Honestly..you will never know after the professionals have been in and sorted it.

Rest and wait til it comes home and enjoy it again!

Just to add if we may...Our apache had two sides damp. Repairs for the two sides and a new rear lower wall was £5k. We do have the bills to prove it.

Warranty covered

I know nothing about this sort of thing so I'm watching this thread with interest. I think I would get a second quote from somewhere else. How damp can a 4 year old van be. When I had a water leak on a previous van they just dried it out and resealed the leak.

It depends who does it but expect anything up to £7,000

2016 Autotrail Apache ...Before we go on...Get passed the "water trail" issues!
Rear garage and side walls passed its Habitation check 12 months ago...8 months down the line and 70% damp! How does that work?
Auto trail Grimsby have sorted it however..within 8 months?? Down to the bloke checking it I'm sure!

That's really bad luck and so unfair to end up with such a severe problem. Motorhomes aren't cheap and you would expect to get a 100% quality van for your money, but sadly it seems that is not always the case. Good luck.

If paying probably £6-£10k.
I would more concerned if it's that bad I can't see how they will ever get rid of the damp & rotten timbers. If you have seen the videos of the SOLID construction you will know they use untreated timbers around the edges of the walls. I can't see how you would replace them without taking the wall off which would be pretty near impossible.

When being repaired I would want to visit the workshop daily to check progress and make sure they are not skimping or bodging.

It’s always confused me why manufacturers don’t use treated timber in something designed to be permanently outside. The cost difference must be minimal.

At least they are pretty much starting again once they have stripped that lot out. You should end up with a virtually new van, with a new warranty on the work done. I think that's much better than a partial strip out of the worst bits. I would however make it very clear that you will be super fussy about how it is all put back together and will not accept any damaged cabinetry etc due to the strip out and refit.
I do hope you have a good experience with the repairs and that the shine stays on your pride and joy.

What a bloody shame, I do feel for you.

I would be more interested in whether the warranty is then going to be extended in case of a recurrence maybe thats why the OP wants to know the cost whether to get it done and sell up or keep it.

with a new warranty on the work done.
The warranty on the work done would only be for a year but as he is not paying I doubt if there would be any warranty like that but there would be the balance of the water ingress warranty.
I think once done the best thing to do would be to get shot of it and buy a van without timber in the construction. Damp can come back and bite you even after repairs.

Edit:
By the time it's been repaired may only be a year or less on the water ingress warranty.

I think I would do the same but it might be a job getting rid without misleading someone else

We had what to me were serious issues to me with our last 2 vans, rejected the first, and part ex'd the 2nd for a good price, with the new dealer arranging the structural repairs, I think dealers are comfortable with major work having been done under warranty.

You've not said who is doing the repairs. That is the most important bit in my view as to whether they are any good.
