My 19L / min pump is okay but I've noticed that Reich also do a 22L/ min version. It's 1.8bar rather than 1.4 but looks like a straight swap. Has anyone done this and found water flow significantly improved?

I fitted a 22l/min in place of a 12l/min which was on its way out. There was an improvement in flow, however not sure you would notice much difference if you already have a 19l/min fitted.
I couldnt get hold of a 12l which is currently on back order but will fit that when it arrives as I am not sure whther or not the syetem was designed to run up to 1.8 bar ( the 12L/min is a 0.5 bar pump).

Thanks, but you're right, it's only about a 15% increase

Some have been disappointed with the service life of Reich pumps and fitted Shurflo pumps insteadof/in series with Reich. Shurflo are available at different pressures, including 20psi, 30psi and 45psi and they are constantly pressurised, on demand, and do not report system leaks.

I did consider jumping camp but I don't have a convenient place to put a Shurflo. There's no room alongside the water tank

I fitted a Shurflo, no leaks but noisier than the Reich submersible.
Water flow greatly improved.

22lpm would empty your water fast on one shower. Trail king 20psi at 7lpm and it’s plenty and less pressure on the boiler valve. Increase that and the valve will drip, than scale will never allow it to shut fully.

I don't understand the Sureflow pumps as they are rated at lower lpm than Reich, although the pressures look higher, how does that work out being better ?

High Flow rate would be benifical on large bore system but on small bore systems in Motorhomes higher pressure will give better results.

Having changed my Reich submersible for a Shureflo I can assure you it is a lot better.

The Reich tandem submersible pump in our Hymer has served us well over the last 7 years. So no need to use the spare one I carry just in case. Happy with the flows we have. Any stronger would mean more trips to the site tap.

Can't say the same about the Reich microswitch taps. 3 failures over the same 7 years. So this summer I turned the system into a pressurised one using a Whale pressure switch. Kept everything else the same. Now I still have a nice quiet submersible pump without any worries about the microswitches failing. And if the pump does fail I already have a new replacement.

A bit of advice for anyone fitting a Shureflo to replace a Reich fit the 20 psi one.

I first fitted a 30 psi one it was very noisy and I kept having problems with it stripped it down a few times, I think I had a duff one from the start but left it too long to return it. Or it could be that the 30 psi is not suitable for Hymers 10mm plumbing they do say minium 12mm.

Replaced it with a 20 psi a few weeks ago works a treat and is so much quieter no noisier than the Reich submersible.
Flow is just as good but a very slight hunting hardly noticeable not worth fitting an accumulator not got room anyway.

Hi paddymcc,
How did the upgrade of the pump work out?
The reason I ask is that I am looking at doing the same tomorrow as my pump has decided to go slow whilst we are on our hols in Portugal. Grrrr!

It's been fine, an easy swap. I used good quality stainless steel jubilee clips as the one being used previously was corroded. The flow seems slightly higher although I may be imagining it.
If it's going slow it probably means one half of the twin isn't working. Keep it as a spare for emergencies

Thanks for the update. Yes, going slow. My shower was fun last night.

I will purchase and swap the pump over today.

Cheers

Buy two pumps if they are available.
I keep a spare as I'm on my third (2018 van).

They can be difficult to obtain except by post which can take 6-8 weeks to arrive, even if ordered directly from the manufacturer

The free flow output rating of a pump isn't a very useful number on its own. It's no good if it can pump 30 litres per minute, but the pump wizzes away and chokes to a dribble when attached to 2m of rise and a shower head. So you also need to look at the static pressure it can achieve as a good indication of how hard it can push when it hits some resistance.

I may do that. Thanks for the advice. I have just fitted the 22 l/m pump and the water pressure is now great.

We are at Camping Armacao de Pera Camping at the present time, at their repair shop. It is like an Aladdins Cave. Don’t try to ask the repair shop for advice though as their next slot is three weeks away.

Just bought a second pump and a dustpan and brush, bin and outside mat. 136 Euros later. Shouldn’t have taken Mrs T with me.

Just to qualify (old post i know) that one is an impellerr pump and one is a diaphragm pump, the later being much much better at producing decent pressure and can maintain that pressure. Impeller pumps, great for fountains and shifting but volumes where there‘s little to no pressure and diaphragm where you need oomph
