im a newbie
has title says i gave in my original license that even had a class 1HGV on it (but had expired because i wasn't needing it anymore and has i was living in Ireland it wasn't worth the medicals and change of address/country) ,but since then i changed to Irish license for legal and also bloody brexit would have given me no choice ,but now ive realized i can only drive up to 3.5 ton and the unbelievable awkwardness and quoted cost (1200) euro make me wish i had kept hold of my c1 driving license ,gutted

If you are over 70 you'd have lost your C1 automatically unless you applied to keep it.

If it's the same as Portugal---- when you exchange your licence for a local one you only get the classes that you passed a test for---- -------one of the reasons that we have to sell our 6 ton flair!!!!!!!
We never passed c1 or trailer tests----- I have been told the trailer test is easy here!!!

Love your name and photo. Quality film ??

I lost my HGV1, 14 years ago due to losing sight in one eye, and when I changed to a Spanish licence I only got a 3.5t and my full motorcycle licence, but Janie got her C1. ?
But I think you can still apply and get your entitlement up to 10 years, providing your OK with any medical requirements that are needed. ? Bob.

I’d love to know more about how to get it back ,I’m still pretty new to motor homes and when changing van to hopefully bigger one it will make all the difference ( I dream of a garage in my ideal m/h) any way the NDLS seem to go out of their way to give no help and has I’m in s/west part of Ireland driving schools that can advise don’t exist ?down here

If you are a resident of Ireland surely you are not entitled to hold a UK licence ?
If you decided to live in Ireland , and its their law that requires you to take a test for LGV , then that comes with the territory , on the plus you dont have travel time limit in EU after transition . BTW LGV licences are regulated by Traffic commissioners

I would contact whoever issued your licence and ask why your entitlement was not on your new licence, do you have any evidence that you had it or contact the dvla. ?
As I said Janie kept her C1, I kept my motorcycle licence because we were entitled to it, the only reason I never got my C1 is because with one eye in Spain you only get a car licence, also here you have a driving test on a computer and a medical. ? Bob.

Well true on all counts , but if I had exchanged before 1997 I could have kept the c1 , but when all taken into account I’d rather be living in Ireland with no c1 than back in Uk with the c1 , so I’ll stop moaning

BOOM
Great news got my licence sorted at last ,turns out if you get the right advice from forums and anyone who,s had the same issues ,then do a bit of paper filling and a medical ,when you turn up to ask for your driving categories to be reinstated every one is helpful and have forgot about the two previous times their advice was wrong and i passed my hgv class 1 when i was much younger but dont really need it anymore but the medical means ive got that put back on ,so great news ,new licence will be with me within 2/3 weeks ,now when i change my van which will be this year ill not be limited to 3.5 ton ,oh how im going to enjoy filling that garage up for any long trips ,thanks to all who gave helpful or encouraging advice

PURE AGEISM. an abuse of (my) "uman rites". If us pensioners where a "minority". it would not happen.
