We are in Montgenèvre at the moment. It is not the nearest to Calais by any means but it has everything else you require. It is a a fairly 'snow-sure' resort. The aire is massive and the price is €9 a day, included 10 amp leccy, there is also freshwater and waste drop. Walking distance to the town and a free ski bus, although you can easily walk to the slope nearest the aire and ski down to the nearest lift.

If you book lessons, the ski schools are the other side of town, but as I said, there is a free bus service to get there. Oh and there is an outdoor ice rink.

Sorry army , thanks for your help, heading your way. Is weather good?

Perfect 'Blue Sky Skiing' at the moment and the snow is excellent.

Stock up before you come up the mountain as it is expensive up here, although eating out is not too bad by ski resort standards.

Briancon in the valley has all the usual supermarkets incl a big Lidl. If you have refillable LPG I.e gas-it or gaslow, refill or top up in Briancon at the Casino supermarket, as it has a high propane content, better for the cold. We also put a good amount of winter diesel in there too.

Try not to arrive Friday afternoon as there is a lot of incoming weekenders, although you will get a place now the main holidays are over.

Thanks for all your advice, we need it don’t think we could make it before Friday but maybe, we are doing ok so far

If you arrive on Friday you will get in somewhere here. You can always move on Sunday afternoon to a better spot if needed. How long are you intending to stay?

A week hopefully, hoping to arrive Friday morning, how long are you staying? Is the aire called du collett Montgenèvre. Thanks for all your help much appreciated, we were considering Les Saisies but no electric in the village centre aire, so this sounds much better.

Sorry to trouble you again are we ok in 7 metre Motorhome, we have snow chains and M & S tyres x

No problem re size of motorhome.

I am not sure what the aire is called but it is the only one in Montgenèvre. Assuming you will becoming from Briancon, you drive all the way through Montgenèvre on the main road, under a flyover (one of the ski runs) and take the left fork in the road. The first thing you come to is the exit to the aire, ignore this and carry on a little further up the hill and you will come to the entrance on your right. The first barrier opens automatically, go in and line up to the ticket machine, press for a ticket and the 2nd barrier should lift. If it goes wrong do not reverse as the first barrier will have closed behind you. If no ticket appears just call the number on the machine and the guy who looks after the place will be out in a jiffy to let you in.

We are here for many weeks yet and will be happy to show you around when you get here.

Can you ski already?

this restores my faith in human nature amazing people always willing to help

Your help is amazing thanks. Our water tank is indoors luckily. Roy has skiid once up the Troodos with our son in law and enjoyed it, I took our very small grandchildren sledding so I haven’t but am happy ice skating and sledding. We have decided not to rush today as we wouldn’t make it in time, so will aim for Monday morning. I will ask if you need supplies bringing up with us, may save you a trip out. The trip up the mountain looks pretty daunting haha

Thanks for the offer of bringing up supplies, no doubt there will be something.

The drive up the mountain can be a bit nerve racking but take your time and you will be fine. Full size coaches and buses do it all the time.

La Bresse Hohnhecke

I am another vote for la Bresse large car park right on the slopes ,not massive ski area but a good testing place for ski motorhoming before taking on the most popular sights. Also to consider is tne lift pass prices. There is another thread on ski sights possibly needs updating. La Rousses is another consideration it had free electric hook up to encorage motorhomers

Montgenevre aire (less most of the snow). It's slap on on the border between France and Italy. A very nice place. :)
