I’m considering getting an emergency jump start battery for my Ducato 2.8 JTD should the starter battery struggle to start the engine. Can anyone recommend one they have personal knowledge of? TIA.

Why buy a massive big heavy battery why not buy a jump pack much lighter and smaller we have NOCO ones st work and there isn't much they can't start

We just have one from middle of Lidl (or Aldi). Not used on our van yet but started another on an aire with us and also used on our car which is stored in remote lock up.

I should have been clearer, it was a Li one I was looking for.

The NOCO Boost Plus GB40 is rated for petrol engines up to 6.0L and diesels up to 3.0L - so it should be fine for your 2.8

I’ve no technical knowledge of such things but this week ALDI were selling a jump start power pack for £30. Very small & portable

Thanks all for the NOCO recommendations. I found one on the Costco website that looks good value.

That website looks a bit suspect to me i.e. it's not the Costco website.

I had a noname lithium jump pack. It worked very well on everything including a 3 litre diesel. Only used it a few times over a period of about 5 years. Occasionally needing a charge. And now it's dead. It says it's fully charged, but can't supply the required current. I suspect it's the usual case of leaving a lithium battery fully charged all the time isn't good for its longevity. But with these things, that's what you have to do. So don't expect them to last forever.

I've had one of these 1000amp booster packs in the boot of my car for about 8 years now, its been used on the next doors car, my cousins 3.0ltr van and a guy at works BMW motorbike. its worked every time, its got a couple of usb ports and a light. I give it an overnight charge about once a year or after it's been used.
if it stopped working I'd be straight out to buy another.

I brought one of these for my 2.8JTD. Low sun, no solar and cold mornings meant the engine battery needed some assistance and I’ve used this twice now in anger on it and very impressed. Then twice on my car (new battery required) and rescued my neighbours car too.

GBX models have more power than the GB models but they dont make this clear.

Can be almost same price on fkeabay or refurbished.

They have other advantages too. It has a high power USB-C port, which means you can recharge the power pack much faster. It can also be used to charge USB devices like phones and laptops. The USB-C port is high power (up to 60W) with Power Delivery (PD). That means it can even charge most laptops, and will certainly charge any phone as fast as any mains charger can.

The GB models (ie not the GBX models) have USB charging, but it's nothing like so good.

Alternatively make arrangements to keep the starter battery charged from the leisure battery.

Prevention is better than cure. A number of options described on these forums.

I had a cheapie lithium jump pack off Ebay, the make was Suaoki.
Used it a couple of times and it worked fine.
Went to use it last year, when it was about 5 years old, and like you found that although it showed 100% charge it didn't supply any power.
I have replaced it with a Noco Boost X GBX 55 1750A that was on offer at Halfords just before Xmas.
The Noco is physically bigger, heavier, feels much more robustly made and is more powerful.
I have used it once to start a friends 4.2 litre diesel boat engine that had completely flat batteries and it worked fine so it should work fine on my vehicles should they suffer a flat starter battery.

I guess the question is, will it still work in 5 years?

I've had and used the Noco 40 and the 70 for the last 7 years with no problems I've used both at work and in our campervan I'm not saying people haven't had problems with them I know some recovery people love or hate them but on balance they are very reliable both I have are at least 7 years old and still function as they should.

Who knows, and I suppose there is no way of knowing until it fails.
As I said it certainly seems better made and is more powerful than the previous cheap one.
However it only has a 1 year warranty, same as the cheap one.

Bought one of these in 2017. Now £102 from Amazon. Used it on several occasions to help others with flat batteries. Never yet had to use it for our van but it’s never failed to start the vans / cars on which it’s been used.👍

That’s the one we carry. Never had to use on our own van, but, have been happy to lend to others to get them started. For the room it takes up and the weight it’s a no brainer to have one on board.

The other thing I use the jump pack for is to power 12v items up for example checking tyre pressure on van's and trailers 12v pumps, I also have a 12v jack for lifting our van so much easier.

I'm selling one in Classified for £70. Never used and will be good for a 2.8 Engine.
