I'm thinking screenwash to washing up liquid, a checklist would be great as when husband alive he did that and I just did food and some driving.

Where do you keep the MH. If it's on the drive why not spend some time in it and see what you need maybe when the weather picks up unless you don't mind the label of the mad motorhome lady!!!?
On the mechanical side I saw that you have just had some work done if it's been serviced and noted it's just a matter of checking tyre pressures water and oil levels etc.
When you think you are ready you could then try a local site for a night or two somewhere close so you can retreat home if needed. After a couple of trips you will be sorted.

The advise from The Wino is excellent.
There is a checklist in the Resources section ( blue band at the top of your screen, Resources is to the left of your name) It’s then the 13th down in the list but it might be a bit overwhelming.
For what to put in the van you could write your own list divided into sections:
Food : items needed to cook and eat meals.
Cleaning: a box of cleaning and washing up materials. I found a bottle of multi purpose spray, a few microfibre cloths, tea towels and dishwashing soap was enough.
For yourself: Go through your day from getting up and add to your list everything you’d use and wear in a day and night. Don’t worked towels.
Leisure items: book, tablet, knitting, whatever suits you.
Emergency items: torch, phone, spare change for parking etc. Any meds you need. First aid kit.
Things you need for your dog: bedding, lead, food, bowls.

I found that once I’d worked out where to put stuff in the van I kept to that place, much easier to find things.

I like s list and the one Jim produces is very good.

Even with a list I forgot knickers for a 2 week holiday!!?

It’s great you are feeling able to carry on using the motorhome after your loss.
Well done and ask away if you need , and safe travels and enjoy your destinations when you arrive.?

I agree with The Wino, it’s the best way of finding out what you need.
Dont go mad and buy a lot of stuff straight off use stuff from home that way you will find what you need to get to leave in the MH

Have a master list of the lists you need! That’s what we do .....not forgotten much but when we do forget something it drives us bonkers ( already there to be honest XX)

I suggest that once you have decided the things you need that, do as we do and leave them in the MH and just have them duplicated at home.

We do this with all the bathroom stuff like shampoo, shaving gear, nail clippers and so on.

Same with all kitchen equipment, knives, pans, cutlery, cleaning materials incl dish cleaning liquid, etc. Same with cleaning equipment and materials for the vehicle itself, kept in the MH garage.

Walking boots stay in, as do wet-weather jackets.

Any clothes and bedding for washing comes inside for cleaning, but is taken back out to the MH as soon as it has been done. We have a well-insulated MH and have no problem with stuff getting damp even unheated.

A lot of non-perishable food e.g. sugar, pasta, canned foods, tea, coffee stays in the MH, so we only have to take fresh food.

The other items we have to remember are two phones, laptop(chargers are 12v so MH specific), guide books for the particular area we are visiting and some clothes.

Obviously there is an initial cost for duplicating items, but after that we can only use 1 at a time in MH and indoors. MH has its own duvet and pillows and three sets of sheets to avoid washing en route, so that is probably the most expensive duplication.

It does make for ease of not forgetting things and the MH can be ready to go quite quickly.

Hope this helps, but if any questions please ask.

Thank you I'm realising a computer and the Internet very useful, my husband spent hours trying researching things-- I thought it was a gimmick apart from news and some cookery sites.

Finding this forum really useful resource.

Take it slowly, go to a local to you site for a couple of nights. Once you’ve got the hang of using the van it becomes easy. I found staying on C&CC sites there was always help if something went wrong. Site manager came to help me when I locked myself out of the motorhome and again when a fuse went. Never be afraid to say I’m new to this and can’t get xxxx to work, people are usually keen to help.
If your van is on your drive you can even spend a couple of nights in it and any forgotten items are close by :)

Ditto. Using the bathroom as an example, we leave toothpaste, shampoo, shaving gel, soap, a spare toothbrush charging stand, etc etc all in the MH - only "bathroom" stuff we need to bring from home now is 2 x toothbrush heads and my razor. Everything else is there already.

Some really good suggestions, thank you and if I go somewhere with a local supermarket near by- I can fix any missed items easily.

We have a list organised locker by locker, area by area, outside and inside :) I have laminated it and would be lost without it.

Also there is a house check list so we make sure teapot is emptied and rinsed out before we go!!

We would have a concern about any non tinned food being left ie sugar as mice have a pretty good sense of smell. Even within plastic containers. Equally they, the mice, love nothing more than making a nest with the duvets. Not had the issue ourselves but on one storage facility we were in several had a mice issue and the attraction of food seemed to be the common link.

Great list by Jim. But when I try to download the checklists all I’m getting are thousands of random numbers and letters?? Bizzare!??

Every time we come home we take more out, never having used all that 'essential' stuff. Our packing list is rapidly heading towards:
  • passport; and
  • money.
