Reaching the age of 70

I went to the mobile Dr. to save money (£50. against my GP £116) and there is NO examination. Either Dr. simply fills a tick box form in response to you answering the questions asked. Quick eye test with standard chart and blood pressure. Nothing more and as far as I am aware, no contact with GP or review of records. I was referred for eye test because I answered the question asking about eyes to say I have Glucoma and the question about medication to say I take eye drops.
There is nothing to worry about, it's just a procedure.
What I don't understand is why ALL drivers don't have the check. If as a result it's decided we can't drive our Motor Homes then presumably we can't drive our cars ????

It is not meant to be 'just a procedure' it is meant to safeguard the public from people with certain health problems driving large vehicles.

If the mobile doctor is simply taking your word for answers about your medical history and not doing an examination then he is not doing his job properly and subverting the system to save you a few pounds and possibly putting other peoples lives at risk!(n)

Agree with you about all drivers having the check, a proper one.

I think you'll find that only having one arm doesn't mean you can't have a licence ... but the other 2 items might!
I only have one arm to use as a result of a (no fault) motorbike collision 6 years ago (I'm 71) but still drive my m/h around Europe and have two adapted motorbikes and rode to Spain and back in June for 3 weeks camping with my tent.
Adaptation on my modern (2016) motorbike......

oh no that is so bad of them! Sending you lots of luck for tomorrow, let us know how it goes.
Well had medical with my doc (£125) last week & Specsavers eye test (£20) a few days before. Just posted all the forms this morning, I think everything was ok but only time will tell now.

AMAZING - I have just checked my driving licence details on the DVLA web site and it shows my licence has been renewed for three years from today with all the previous catergories included.

Only posted the aplication on Monday by Special Delivery, they recieved it Tuesday ... so only 2days.(y)

Congratulations, you probably didn't have any doubts anyway, my actual licence took about a week to arrive home, I DID keep ALL my old licences though,
Cheers
Alan

must remember to renew mine summertime next year, hoping they send a reminder too..
hopefully won't be a problem, no notifiable to dvla illnesses thankfully, although was quite shocked to see how many are now listed on the dvla site from a few years ago, most though allow to keep licence after the three score years and ten..
(licence was renewed ( with payment) just 4 years ago after the expiration of the photo, (lasts 10 years only), so not sure if i will have to pay again, and unsure what this government gateway id thing is where renewal over internet is possible)

the only cost involved with my renewal was for the medical (£100) and the eye test (the eye test was free, but £20.00 to do the paperwork, Specsavers - Lakeside)

I also had a free Eye test and there was no charge to complete the first page of the form or the next form DVLA sent confirming the original details. Specsavers or Boots Darlington.

Yes DVLA sends a reminder about 3 months before expiry date on licence.
Renewal can be done on line unless you have and want to keep the C1 category in order to drive moho over 3500Kg.
