I wonder if anyone can help.
I have a L199DRS Avtex TV. I have a number of TV recordings on memory card, formatted in exFAT. I have previously played these programmes on Notebook + HDMI lead on the TV and it has always worked. I have tried to play the programmes via a USB reader into the USB socket and failed.
The TV sees the USB reader and reports a USB2.0- connection but does not see the programmes. I have tried a flat filing system and tried the same programmes in both MPEG2 and MP4 format, additionally it did not show a photo in JPEG format either.
Please can anyone advise me what I am doing wrong and how I can get this to work. I previously posted this in the U-shaped lounge and DuxDeluxe kindly replied but thought maybe someone on Motorhome Chat might be able to help as well.

Many thanks

Mike

Just a few points from the manual.

USB1.1 must be formatted in 'Windows FAT', not FAT32 or NTFS. (doesn't mention USB2.0 with reference to format)

Says it can handle MPEG and JPEG files.

'When reading MPEG files on the USB there may be a long pause'.
-If nothing found, it should display 'Empty Device'.
-If there's a problem, it should display 'Device Error'.

Also, see this thread: https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...playing-stuff-off-usb-hdd-help-please.124514/
...which include the manual page I was reading from too :)

Tony68000,
Thank you for taking the time to reply.
I read the thread you quoted and have tried everything but nothing works, quite a mystery really.
It looks like it's still playback via notebook and HDMI until I can find out what the problem is.
Kind regards
Mike

Have you selected USB as the Source? The set will only work on MPEG2 I think.

Thank you DBK.
Sadly , I have tried that and it still didn't work.
Kind regards
Mike

Try reformatting the USB stick to FAT32 as the TV may not recognise the newer exFAT formatting.
Our Ferguson (Cello rebrand) recognises both FAT32 and NTFS. Never tried it with exFAT though.

Avtex had to update my TV, so it work on stick.

Sometimes the size or type of the USB is the issue on some devices. Have you tried different USB's?

Thank you for your replies. I will try tonight and let you know how I get on.
Kind regards
Mike

The FAT32 suggestion worked a treat, however I had to dump all the files onto “spare” media space to enable the original memory to be formatted as required, hence the slowness of my response for which I appologise. I’m now working on the second memory chip to complete the conversion. I was initially disappointed with the small image on the screen, and it took a moment or three to realise that a simple “tap” on the DVD controls established the full screen display. The user handbook leaves a lot to be desired ( as a writer of technical handbooks in a previous life!!) Once again a big thank you to you all for your help.
Kind regards

Kinda thought it would be a "format" problem.
Your next challenge will be to see how large a usb stick \ drive it will accept as you start to fill up the current one!:whistle2:

Our Ferguson says up to 1Tb but it does recognise and play .mkv files on a hard disc up to 2Tb. 4Tb fails though.

Hi MandP

I have an old Avtex 16" where I had difficulties getting the unit to play USB's or Hardrives.

Try this to see if this works on your TV.

Turn on TV.

Select source DVD

When the screen is saying "Ejecting" then Press DVD on remote.

A setup menu appears. When this is showing press 9 2 1 0 on the remote and a 4 line screen appears with DivX on the bottom line .

If DivX is shown as Off press 9 to change to On

Select Exit on the remote.

This sorted out my problem.

You can also see the region setting on this screen which you can change by pressing the number on the remote of the DVD region you want.

Now try to run your USB or harddrive. I am running a 650GB drive which is formatted to Fat32 which is required by the TV. It has over 300 films and programmes for us to watch whilst we are away and has room for as many again.
