Is it possible to add a new catch and lever on my wide Polyplastic window (1100mm wide) on the sliding door? It presently has only two, and there's plenty of space to add a third one in the middle, like most other PVCs have. Presently it is so loose in the middle, I can push my fingers right through the rubber gasket to the outside. It not very secure. The window rattles and flexes when we're moving, and the rubber gasket squeaks noisily, I've even found mud dirt on the inside. Is it a DIY prospect? It'd have to be stuck to the inside of the pane. Plus I'd have to find a match to the others. Can anyone identify?

Another issue with the present window catches all around the van, is that at installation the Autotrail engineers stuck Silkatex or similar between the serrated packing piece at the base and the handle body, so there is no way to adjust the fit of the window to the frames. Don't want to try to remove the Silkatex and damage the handles, since I cannot source replacements, or identify the manufacturer. Maybe Polyplastic, but they don't deal with the public?

Maybe make or have something like this made in aluminium to secure that window if not needed as emergency fire exit:

Sizes not applicable in all cases but diagram may be handy to understand the design

That's a good idea, I couldn't do it myself but it gives me something to think about. Thanks!

Not sure we could make that either but sure some on here could!

I'm thinking hardwood flat beading say 10mm thick x width of frame, painted black. Wouldn't stop a gemmy but might impede. Also wouldn't help my flexing window. mmmm. pondering!

Are the rubber seals needing replaced?

No, they're fine. They are meant to flex to form a seal to the window. I was thinking of pumping silicone oil under the seal to stop the squeaking, but once it gets in, you can't stick anything should it be necessary.

OK simple first Google search ""caravan window catches"" you buy the two parts separately one complete one would set you back around a tenner or more

Our catches didn't lock but a simple drill and cotter pin soved it - OK it won't stop someone who REALLY wants to break in but it slows down the opportunist

I would remove the window catch base screws & slice through the sikaflex with either a cheese wire or a sharp knife on all.Them refit farther back on the slotted base screw holes. That will allow the window to be pulled in as it is designed to do.
Any caravan scrap place has those types of handles available as I bought some for the last van from one in Essex.
