Hi peeps, We have a "slight" problem with our brakes
They are fine on gentle tapered breaking, but when I put a lot of pressure on the pedal at higher speeds then we get a lot of juddering and vibration coming up the steering column and steering wheel. At first I thought it was the abs but that would give me juddering on the brake pedal.
I wondered if there might be some grease on the disc or pads. I did have new pads fitted sometime ago and only used it for short local journeys since.
Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated

Warped disc. Any reason for having the pads replaced other than wear?

Warped disc/s is where I’d be looking first.

If you put light pressure on the brakes you will probably feel a slight movement back and forth on the steering wheel.

If disc's are not warped and in good condition, put old pads back and test again. If this cures problem, try and get replacement of same make etc. because there are many types of pad and some have strange characteristic's also some are slightly larger and are trying to brake on the rough edge of the disc.

I agree you get different pad sizes but if you are braking on just the outer raised area that would just reduce braking efficiency.

If discs are badly warped they will give a longer pedal as well because the pads are pushed back.

Look carefully at discs even if not warped you can occasionally get a patch that is discoloured and this changes the friction in that area , and can result in juddering This often occurs when discs are getting thinner :)
