We have a 2015 Fiat based Hymer B678 and are having a problem with the windscreen wipers. Evertime we switch on the ignition the wipers start and I can't find a way to stop them unless I switch off the ignition.

We are touring in France and heading for Spain and I have ended up disconnecting the electric supply block to the wiper motor so that we can still use the motorhome. The weather has been good so far but we really need to get the problem sorted out before we are caught out by the rain

We had a similar problem a few years ago and the dealer sorted it by changing the Hymer control unit for the wipers (not the Fiat unit). Sadly that brilliant dealer (Becks) is no longer in business.

I tried taking out the fuse for the wipers in the dashboard fuse box but that didn't work. There is another fuse in the engine bay for the wipers but that is a pig to get into, hence my decision to disconnect the motor.

So two questions please. Can this easily be fixed? If not does anybody know if there is Hymer dealer in the Bordeaux area I could take it to?

Many thanks for any help.

Probably missing the self park signal in the wiper motor, if you can discount the permit feed for it you can use the wipers bt they won’t self park.

It's normal under the bonnet up next to the wiper linkage it was on our Dethleffs

Water/damp was across these contacts where the cable connector fitted into the wiper motor unit

It was across these contacts, mind you it could be that the brushes inside the wiper motor worn down & fine dust shorting out

Me to. My worry is getting one in France for the UK market as wipers are different hand to European models. Hope it is adjustable.
Shouldn't make any odds, it only controls the switching.

Yep as Ditcha says under, the bonnet at the back under the scuttle. Had one fail on my last Hymer.
Are these easy to fit? Just unplug, unbolt, bolt new one in and plug in? Asking in case they have them in but won't fit as it looks more like an accessory supplier.

Yes just a relay box that plugs in & with your EP's you can raise the van so you don't cripple your back grovelling under an A Class bonnet, like I did last week changing the air filter.

I had problems with this and my local garage put it down to loose connectors into the unit. They zip-tied the connectors into position and that cured the problem.

Measure the distance between your two wiper blades arms, mine is 61.5cm /24•5", I don't remember on my A class being any wider
My A class has three wiper blades. Not sure what the relevance of the width of the screen is but my screen is about 2.1m wide.

Are you confusing your PVC with an A class?

That is interesting. I have checked the connections to our relay and they seem tight. Having done that I reconnected the connections to the wiper motor and turned the ignition on and then fired up the engine. Wipers are now working properly!!!

I had decided to visit the Hymer dealer tomorrow but should I now if the wipers are still working tomorrow? Probably will still visit them as they are not far out of our way to get them to check. If they have the relay in stock I may buy one just in case it plays up again.

Result!
I had the problem several times (each time in 🇫🇷). The supplying dealer Travelword, were rubbish but since the local garage zip-tied the connectors, I've not had a problem.
Hope it's sorted.

Went into the dealer. The good news was that the young lady at service reception spoke very good English and was as helpful as she could be. But they can't look at it today. Checked and they do not have the part in stock. They will email their supplier who will reply by the end of the week as to price and availability. And then it will take a further 2 weeks for delivery!

I left them my phone number and email address and said I might pick up on way back. At the moment all is working OK and I have reconnected it and it worked in the rain today. I suspect I will leave it until I am back in the UK and buy the one that Brownhills are advertising on Ebay.

Weather is not looking good in Spain or France so we have swerved left and now heading slowly for the French med which looks the best bet weather wise.

We are stopped at a free Aire in a beautiful village called St-Antoine for tonight and may stay another night just relaxing

Drove through heavy rain today and the wipers worked faultlessly. Fingers still crossed.

Made it this afternoon to the Aire at Gruissan and had our first look at the Med in 3 years. Weather not brilliant, but seems to be better here for the next day or two than anywhere else. So may stay more than one night

How muddy is it at Gruissan peterc10 ?
We've had similar thoughts to you about the Med being the best bet, for the time being.
We had thought of going to Gruissan tomorrow, but we remember that it can be very muddy.🤔

It was a bit muddy when we arrived and had to be careful where we parked but has not rained and is drying up well with the sun yesterday and winds now. Depends where you park. We are in the far bit. Looking out of the wiindows (having a lazy day) there are still some puddles though.

According to the Ventusky app we should not be getting any rain for the next couple of days unlike other areas. Although it will be windy, but that is why the Aire is called the quatre vents.
