We arrived at the MH parked for one month on a friend's farm in Kent on Sat evening.

Sunday morning we were moving to Canterbury P+R to service MH ready for 0800 ferry onn Tues.

Set off, clutch felt limp, gears difficult to engage. Not a problem one wishes to take across the Channel.

Call out recovery or wait till Mon morning? We waited. Are we going to make Tues ferry or re-book?

Mon called 'Mr Clutch' - 'Bring it in we will look at it'

1015 arrived. 1019 mechanic came out, I described symptoms - 'Must be hydraulic', fluid full.

He jumped in the seat, pumped pedal, foot behind it, lifted pedal and operation returned to normal.

Explanation - air had got in system when standing, air pumped back to reservoir. All good.

No charge, would not even take a tip. All done in 10 mins.

What a result - and relief!

Back on schedule for our trip.

I don't doubt its now working but I'm finding that explanation hard to swallow.
I agree, it might be a good excuse for not wanting the job. :)

But it would do no harm changing the hydraulic fluid but my fear is something is on the way out. :(

pleased you are sorted and on your way. but ,,,, air dont just get into a hydraulic system.

desreves a bit more investigation when you got time.
 
Sounds like the slave cylinder may be failing. When it's not too bad pumping the clutch pedal will restore pressure for a while, but it won't get any better.
 
I had an old Vauxhall that did that. You could lift the pedal every morning and it would work but eventually the master cylinder gave up so just beware.
 
hope it's not a fiat x250 the slave cylinder is inside the clutch bell housing. makes no sense replacing the slave cylinder without the clutch as well
 
Just had the same happen on my new to me Vauxhall vivaro, but found a slight leak of fluid in the drivers footwell, now in the garage getting a new master cylinder, a simple job, if it was the slave cylinder it is a much bigger job as like the fiat, it is inside the bell housing. There must be a leak somewhere.
