Not sure how many people are aware of this, but definitely need to know especially if you’re driving in towns or villages in France


When approaching an intersection, and in the absence of any priority signalling, the priority on the right prevails. The driver must give priority to any vehicle coming from a road to his right.

Been caught out by that a few times usually in small towns. I think there's probably a bit of regional variation in whether it's observed.

Not always, it's something to do with those yellow signs with a black line across them or not.

Unless I have definitely seen a 'Priorite' sign in my favour, I cross-check by looking at the side road to see whether it has a 'Yield' or 'Stop' line on the road surface. If there is it is because I have priority. No line, then give way to the right.
