It's windier at sea. And they have plenty of deck and masts to mount them to. And for boats, having additional sources of power can be safety critical (which is rarely the case for a motorhome), so they'll put up with poorer performance. What makes sense on a boat doesn't necessarily make them worthwhile on a van.Hi.
Ask a Yacht owner, they all seem to have them. If you do get one,a clue as to where to park for the night........ Middle of a Wind farm. Lots of Farms seem to have what i would call medium ones ,but those are not portable. Best of luck.

I guess they need a very stable mast that isn't going to be blown over. You'd probably need quite a lot of lines to tie it down, which isn't always practical depending on the surface of the pitch. Having a mounting point on the van probably makes it much easier to deploy.spoke to a guy as shell island who had one 30 yds from us that I could hear .
He said waste of time & money, noisy, weak and vibrates through his van no matter what he did. Just leaves it on when he goes out through the day.
Why he attached it to his van and not on a spike or whatever I dont know
