Hi everyone,
I've spent a long time getting to understand the (rubbish) alternator charging setup on my Compass Avant Garde 194 and planning an upgrade based on a 30A Victron B2B. (Ive already bought the B2B so please dont tell me that the 50A is better :giggle: )
I'd really appreciate a peer review of my planned installation from the electrical experts on here.

Here is a diagram of my current alternator charging arrangement - as I understand it.

(NB Its a simplified diagram with fuses not shown and not all relays in the PDU shown)

I was going to fit a changeover relay in order to bypass the built-in SCR in the PDU but then it occured to me that if I made that change, I would be running my fridge from my leisure battery when engine was running rather than from the start battery as it is now.
I would effectively be giving away some of the charge going through the B2B to drive the fridge. (see diagram ver1) so I decided to wire a relay (activated by D+) to switch the fridge on and run it from the start battery, as it is now, so as to leave full 30A charge from the B2B

Have I made any silly mistakes here?
Thanks

Personally, I wouldn’t use the Victron 30A. It runs hot and it’s not very efficient. When it gets hot the output drops to 20A or less. Go for the Orion XS. You can restrict it to 30A. It’s more expensive but it’s so much better than the 30A unit.

Edit: Sorry, just saw you’d already bought it. You can always sell it in the classifieds!

Or, better still, sell it and buy a Schaudt WA 121545.

No silly firmware upgrades needed.

Why do you need a link from the leisure battery to J3 Pin4? As I see it, that link is a supply to the SCR and the BCA fridge relay, both of which are now not required. However I think the circuit will work OK either way, with the link or without it.

Thanks for reviewing my plan.
I put the link in because I believe that the Hab alarm is connected (in the PDU) to the start battery. Once I remove the start battery PDU connection the alarm will loose power, so I put the link in to keep the alarm powered (from the leisure battery).
On reflection perhaps I should connect the alarm directly to the start battery circuit ?
