Hi all

Newbie member - I've posted in the introduction forum btw!

We have a 2008 Cityvan CV60 ( built by Pilote) which is a compact A class with a cab door on the continental side. On a recent trip I shut the cab door on my walking boots which I had stored in the footwell and broke the bottom hinge. What a twit!

The hinge is a 5-segment affair made from aluminium pieces with a steel rod through the sections, the rod itself has broken off between each segment leaving the door just hanging by the top hinge.

I’ve had a friend of ours who’s a very skilled mechanical engineer take a look and he’s been unable to drive out the sections of broken rod. He said it’s no good trying to drill them out either because the drill will just wander about and chew up the softer aluminium. So what I have isn’t repairable.

I have of course extensively googled for parts and found nothing, the trouble is our van is pretty rare and they were only made for a couple of years. I’ve emailed O’learys with photos and had no response. I've also seen the threads about the chap that manufactures replacement Ellbee hinges, these aren't the same as mine. My next plan is to email Pilote but I there’s just a generic email address on the French website so I don’t have much hope – but I’ll try.

Does anyone have any ideas please? Is this a job for a motorhome accident repair place? - I tried to link a couple of photos from my Google account but it wouldn't work - am I allow to post the links on here?

Thank you!

Photo please of both hinges, should be able to upload.

I couldn't get the photos to link to here's the links to the google photos. Please see if these work! I assume you can copy and paste into the browser. One photo shows the intact top hinge (same as the bottom) and the other shows some broken sections. If this doesn't work please advise how I can post pics. thanks

If you can remove the broken hinge it’s easy enough to remove the broken pin. It needs setting up in.a milling machine not a hand drill.

You may have a local Men’s Shed who can help if you can’t find an engineering workshop

Anything like these? if not maybe he could make you one.

Thank you - tried billsunhinged but he can't help me unfortunately. Found an email address for the Pilote UK agent so dropped them a message.

I don't think it'd be possible to drill or machine out the steel rods, the drill is just going to wander and chew up the much softer aluminium hinge segment and they appear to have corroded together in place.

My next stop is a local motorhome dealer that provides accident repair - someone must be able to help me.

Thank you - Today I rang up a local place which is also a Pilote dealer, and they said to email some photos to their service department. I'm waiting to hear back but I will give definitely Hayes a try if no luck.
