Eight wonderful years!
Hi. I bought one of these cards and got the password years ago. (An experience etched on my memory because it was mega hot, we didn't understand the (English!) instructions and had to be helped by fellow Brits and we had a dodgy mobile signal so couldn't receive the code they sent - we blocked the road for quite some time and rude words were said!) I've reluctantly tried to use it twice since, and failed both times. On both occasions the signs have said that parking for the day is about €6 but when I get to the "charge your card" screen, the minimum it asks for is double this. There doesn't seem to be an option to simply pay by credit card. Can anyone please explain!

I think you may be referring to Camping Car Parks?
The code is for the wi-fi.
If the water is within the barrier you will need to charge the card with a minimum of 1 night. If you stay for less than 5 hours only the short stay will be charged but water is included. You can only pay by card.
Flash your Pass card on scanner on machine, orange surround, choose amount to pay on screen, enter credit card, top right make payment, your card is charged, flash card under reader prior to barrier and barrier will open.
You can check how much you have on card by flashing orange surround.
You also flash your card UNDER another card reader to get water
However, no way of knowing what you owe, you have to work it out based on entry time for 24 hours.
If you stay say for three 3 nights then you will need to load 2 more nights to card.
Then barrier will open
All above assumes Camping car parks
If real problem, a helpful clear English speaking person will answer 'phone.

As far as I am aware, regardless of how much you add to your card, it only debits you the amount shown on the price list. i.e if you add €12 to your card, and only stay for a couple of hours, it will only debit your card the €6 leaving you with a credit of €6.

Why not just charge your card up with say 50€ and all you have to is swipe in front of keypad and presto you're in or out whichever. You can load your card whenever you want over the Internet. Never ever had a problem..

We bought one of these cards when we were in utah Beach a few weeks ago, (have not used it since) i spoke to a lady after ringing the number in the machine. She spoke to me in good English and i created an account with them. It was fairly easy. I understand you have to to up your card every time you use it unless you top it up by a larger amount.

We purchased a card before we left home and top up online when required. The thing I like about this system is being able to see how many spaces are available on any give aire, in real time, on their website.
It does seem quite accurate but you must remember you can book spaces on these airs, so if you turn up and see a space you may not be able to enter. Better to check availability online first.

Thanks to all of you - All relevant advice! I was confused by the option to "charge your card" because I didn't know whether this meant charge to my card or charge up my card - which are clearly two very different things. I now realise that you have to put money on the card before you can use it to pay for the parking and any excess sits there as a credit. I thought it just debited it from your bank account (like the Toll - Sanef - system). Knowing there's an English speaking person around to ring is also well worth knowing. I shall no longer look at these entry barriers with trepidation! Isn't this forum brilliant! Happy travels to you all.
