Hi we will be in Spain for the next 4 months ( or more ) what are peoples experiences with labour prices , and parts like Tyres and filters, worth waiting to have it done in Spain?

How does that fit in with the 80 day rule.

Dunno, but rather than save a few quid I like to go to a trusted place locally or at least somewhere I can take it back to if not right.

Hmmm I have found over the years that there are awesome mechanics all over the world, the poorer the country, the better the skill level of the mechanics , I was just interested in people’s opinion with first hand experience.
Current main dealer labour rates in this country are down right offensive🤷🏻‍♂️

Have a look at Norauto Spain. They are (sort of) like Halfords in the UK.

Broken Link Removed

They fit us a new Bosch cab battery 4 yrs ago. €145.

We had an engine water temperature sensor ( the one that switches on the fan?) diagnosed and replaced at a Fiat Main Dealers near Madrid abt 6 years ago. Was with them abt 4 hours ( most of that waiting for the engine to run up to temperature.

Cost €36 inc part(s) All negotiated using Google Translate!(y):giggle:

Thanks that sounds promising👍

I quite agree but how do you know when it's a garage on your travels?

I never use a main stealer. All the family have been going to a local garage for 30+ years. If stuff's going to be due when away I have it done early before I go. E.g. servicing. Tyres don't suddenly wear out.

You are right Tyres don’t suddenly wear out , they are only 2 years old but through mileage I expect them to be ready for changing just before next mot, which is between Christmas and new year, as we will be off soon for a round through NL, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, France and Southern Spain, and then back again through France to UK to arrive just in time for Christmas dinner😆😆😆, so therefore my question about pricing in Spain 👍, as I don’t think France will be much cheaper then the UK

Don't know about tyres over there, but needed a part for the camper back in 2019 €11 in Tarragona £42 in UK

Trip sounds good. 👍
Happy trails

Hi...of course a few years back when we had a great exchange rate prices couldn't be beaten....however now you have to shop around...
My Citroen first service was 130€ fully inclusive..
Oil is cheapish so are bits and pieces..
Tyres can be competitive...much better in Andorra...
Leisure batteries can be expensive...motorhome bits no so...
Labour costs vary too..depends on dealership..
My last set of 4 tyres were bought in the UK because at the time I couldn't get Crossclimate tyres local to us here in Spain

Tyres can be dearer. Most main dealer hourly rates are under 40€/hr.
Independents aren't much less though.parts I find are cheaper usually.

40 euro, Jeeez, most main dealers here would charge that for 10 minutes, some of the brands really take the piss big time, more and more people are just no longer prepared to pay those rates

tyres have to be the same on the axles. Get a puncture and they all have to be replaced .

Don't be taken in by ex pats or English speaking.

get advice off locals and or other ex-pats

Fiat charged me £80 + vat to analyse the dash not working properly. Thankfully refunded when fixed under goodwill as there isn't an apparent ongoing fault.

All my family bring there vehicles here. "Dad/Grandad will fix it" Plus a very, very, very reasonable hourly rate

We’ve got a son living in Lincolnshire……can I make a booking please. :ROFLMAO:

That would be a novelty, my lot just turn up

When you say 'we've' got a son. Is that the royal 'we'? I am beginning to panic now. When was he born?:mad:

Apparently, my wife claims that I’m her son’s Dad….not had DNA confirmation though…..My (?) two sons are 6’ and 6’4”……I’m 5’8 on a good day. 🤷‍♂️

However, my wife states they are both ‘annoyingly’ like me in personality……not sure what she means.:ROFLMAO:

Don‘t worry, we only have links to Lincolnshire going back about 10 years. ;)

Booked an oil change plus oil filter at North East Truck and Van, York, this week. On the basis that it takes an hour's labour, the hourly rate is around £200, inclusive of VAT..

I always wonder with tales of ripoff Britain what job the person saying about it being a rip off does and how the take home wage would compare in say Spain. Generally in places where stuff is cheaper either wages are lower or taxes. I'm all for getting a bargain but if things are cheaper don't think that necessarily means people doing the job here are ripping people off I wouldn't fancy working for the wages usually in countries with low prices.

Labour must be cheaper so if it’s a labour intensive task (timing chain for example) then it’s likely to be quite a bit cheaper.
