Has anyone used the above route recently,we're booked to go on 13th June which we're reluctant about with the way they've treated their staff.Anyway Ive just spoken to them and they cannot tell me yet of any details our sailing.I am seriously thinking of doing the tunnel instead, but if any of you have used P & O could you tell me what was it like.

I understand your thoughts but I guess you booked before all the fuss so why waste your money.? Just don’t buy anything on board.

Good alternative to P &O is Irish ferries. Tend to be the cheapest crossing for Dover to Calais.

Don't worry they didn't sack any EU staff.

Aother one of my concerns is does the Brock operation only affect lorries,or does it include all vehicles.

we're reluctant about with the way they've treated their staff.
And I quote:

In 2005, Irish Ferries replaced 543 crew members with eastern European workers paying them less than half the Irish minimum wage

They're all the same, I wouldn't bother worrying about it.

I came home with them on Tuesday. Everything was fine- all the deck workers wave at you as you get on and off the boat (all very smiley) The only "issue" was the barman said they didn't have any gin- my wife said the bottle of Gordons behind him would do- he said that wasn't gin. My wife got her G&T eventually:giggle:

I had a ticket booked 2 years ago. P&O only confirmed my booking ( by email) a week before sailing. The problem being they can't confirm the vessel name as a few are still confined to port. The service I used 04:25 (by choice) was very very quiet. The new guys welcomed me onboard, which reminded me of when you embark on a cruise and they are all vying for your tips. Would I use them again? Probably not based on their treatment of their staff. I suspect another company will eventually buy the vessels and start up under a different name. Cynical Moi?

Probably not based on their treatment of their staff.
I probably woudnt think twice about this when booking wthout trying to sound controversial.

If the price was right and the service good, Id be off like a shot.

I dont look into history of companies or how staff were treated. How far would I go, would I then check they are paying /treating suppliers the right amount, how about contractors......... do I check all Asdas taff are treated right, the list goes on, no I dont, they have unions for that, and obvioulsy not very good ones as nowt much has been done.

Either that or P&O didnt break any laws...."OI, what about morals " ? morals dont pay the bills Im afraid
.

Have a look at DFDS They seem to have put on a lot more sailings than before. Never used them, but I will this year as I just will not give P&O Ferries my dough!!

P&O cruises are a completely different outfit and will be receiving my cash early in '23 (Hopefully!!)

We came on DFDS on Tuesday, we hadnt used dover Calais for years and no way were we going P&O. New Calais port was a big surprise but the whole thing took at least twice as long as tunnel. Tunnel next time I think.

Btw came down A2/M2 instead of M20 and no queues at all. Port was quiet

Bearing in mind that most other companies did the same to their crews a long time ago, which perhaps many people do not realise. My Company flagged out in 1984 and replaced with cheaper labour

and was this for wages reasons?
Oh yes…… and the company that flagged out the fleet to replace with cheaper labour was………

P&O!

I gave them what they wanted and they had thus wasted over 12 years of expensive training and exam costs.

You may be correct, I thought it was Union Castle !!!!!
I think they all did it at some stage so may have been them as well. Many shipping companies simply sold up. The shipping industry used to be run by shipping people. Now it is accountants.

I had a great time in my last career working on a peer to peer basis peer with Greek, Italian and Turkish shipowners who were not only professionals but dedicated to ships and almost always ex Masters or chief engineers, so dealing as equals (and good for a beer and a chat after hours)

The kiss of death to any company. Accountants should just count the beans, not invent them, produce them, market them and look after customers. Tin hat now on😏

Operation Brock is for freight vehicles. The only effect on our MoHo trip was a complicated diversion getting to the Folkestone tunnel

I used P and O last month Dover to Calais and return three weeks later and it was all painless, they kept me up to date with things and advised me to simply go to the DFDS gate where all would be arranged.
Easy peasy and no problem whatsoever, enjoy your trip. (y)

I guess one of the reasons they cannot say the sailing times is that they are hoping to get another ship passed to sail on the route. We are sailing with them on the 7th June at a time that doesn't correspond to their advertised sailings.

To Boycott something must come from the heart, its a personal issue, for personal reasons....we all remember why we wouldn't eat Bratwurst, Apples from South Africa, Beef from Argentina, anything from the sweat shops in Asia, but we soon forget....currently we are catching up on BBC, Simon Reeve's worldwide travel series...we love his presentations.....but we both wouldn't watch the episodes about Russia...I'm sorry to say that this too will be forgotten in time.....as it was last night on BBC news at 6pm...Ukraine got a couple of minutes at the end.....

No delays on the M20. Keep in the RIGHT HAND LANES. After the HGV Check Traffic lights it is a normal traffic flow to the Tunnel and Dover Port.
