Hi we want to visit Taragona but it looks hellish to find somewhere to stay. So thinking of staying in Salou and catching the train.
I have found a suitable parking spot near the adventure land train station in a car park on P4N.
My concern is I have read some reports about police clamping down on overnight stays near the coast. Whats the current situation, If there no restrictions shown are we good to stay overnight?

You could try this

I've had a look on your profile (on my phone) and I can't find your outfit. This may be important.
If you are sub 3.5T providing that you park your van correctly you will be fine.

This is what I mean.

You are parked within a bay and there are no signs saying specifically that autocaravanas (motorhomes) are prohibited. There are no parts of the van protruding beyond the vans footprint and there are no parts of the van, other than the tyres touching the ground, (think steadies) Note: you can put a chock (not a leveller) under a wheel if on a slope.

If you want to park on a road, you may do so, providing you obey all signage, park on the correct side of the road and obey all the stuff re car parks.

The reason is simple. A sub 3.5 is regarded exactly the same as a car, therefore, if you can park a car, you can park a sub 3.5T van.

If I've missed anything out of the above restrictions, please feel free to join in.

I'm inclined to agree that the law should not differentiate between a car and a motorhome when it comes to parking.... however some regions of Spain are introducing Bye Laws that would prohibit overnight parking....some examples are..within a given distance from a beach, residencial areas or official motorhome places including campsites (5km).our neighboring Municipality is about to introduce such laws, although it's going to come up with opposition from the motorhome community here in Spain...

I have heard of the restrictions you have mentioned but surely they would have to have signage
Either that or there needs to be an Ouiji board at the entrance to every car park.

Last November there were quite a few MHs parked here overnight, not sure if they are still allowed to. When are you going there?

It helps to know the law as a visitor...but if you don't the uniformed officer carrying a side arm will be there to make it known....if you can argue the case..... I've done it....and have won one time and come a close second on others, try you luck.....or better still...
Move on....

I've got THAT piece of Legislation in the van, both in Spanish and translated into English.
And whether the upholder of the Law is carrying a big stick or Walter PPK doesn't concern me.
