I'm new to it
Hi, I wonder if somebody in the know can point me in the right direction. We bought our first MH back in July and have had a few problems but have worked though them. This one though has turned into a major problem and we have had no joy from Motorlands in Lytham. What has happened is that the over-cab sunroof has started to crack. When we first looked at it there was a small crack as you can see in one of the first pics we took when we first looked at it back in June. We were not unduly worried but when we returned from holiday another had appeared then another ! We now have 3 different cracks in the plastic all about a foot long. We have drilled holes to stop them going any further and put clear sealant in. I don't have any photos of this as its in the garage at the moment. My question is where would I go to get this plastic replaced ? Motorlands where we bought it from did the drilling to stop the cracks getting any bigger but will not do anymore as they say the MH was priced accordingly to take into account the crack in the plastic inner (there was only one about 6" long when we bough it as below. There are now 3 all about 9 to 12 inch long

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way there is no crack in the outside roof and it does not rain in or anything like that. It is just the inner that is cracked and mists up a little.

You could get it welded but that will be unsightly .. I suspect it will be the motorhome manufacturer ,...

We owned a Knaus Sport, similar to yours from the picture, and hit a hanging cable while travelling through the Pyrenees. The damage went without notice at the time and I found it months later when cleaning the van and remembered the impact. I left it and it got worse so eventually we paid to replace it and the work was done by the workshop we use and a commercial windscreen company with the correct lifting gear at very great expense. You could try an insurance claim which we failed at. Our current van has all plastic roof lights which are probably just as expensive but much easier to replace.

I can't help I am afraid but it sounds to me as though the inner pane is stressed more than the outer. Personally I would be contacting the manufacturer to purchase a replacement window, as expensive as it may be if the supplying dealer is not interested, dealers damn them :xangry:

Hi Thanks all. Yes we believe that is stressed as the whole top part of the MH is plastic and it flexes causing this. The van is 11 years old so I don't think there will be much help from the manufacturer ( i think they have gone bust anyway Knaus/ Weinsburg.) I would really like to know who i should contact get a quote.

There is a guy in Keighley under the name of Caravan Dan I believe. He has recently done work on my van and he knows what he is doing, deals mainly in Hymers but a window is a window.
Mobile number is 01274 892797, post code, BD21 3LG.
Best of luck, let me know how you get on.
Norman.

have a good look see if there is a manufacturers name and part number on the part. If so then google could be your friend I beleive someone in the uk re manafacturs windows but i cant recall their name sorry and good luck.

Google eeco exhast window
I believe they can copy your existing window, no idea of cost.

eeco-ltd.co.uk

when you get it sorted, make sure that the screen below it is not fully closed when the roof is fully closed in hot sun.

that will cause the skylight plastic to overheat and as its plastic stress it. That may nopt have been the cause of your issues but just a heads up.

our overcab has a sticker stating not to have both fully closed in direct sunlight.
on asimilar note we had a large plain decal in front of the skylight which crazed after prolonged direct sunlight ( not in the UK ) but that was easier to remove and rectify.

Think they went bust in 2008, but still trading today ...as far as I know ?

knaus name has been taken over,

but,

it will be a standard fit window, just need a decent fitter and the identity of the said window.
ohh and a lump of cash :xsad:

Ha ha I think it will be a fair lump of cash too ! Again thankyou one and all. I will collect it from the garage today and have a look for a manufacturers name :giggle:

We have the same thing on our Burstner and have been waiting since May for a replacement:confused:

Where is it coming from do you know ? You don't happen to have a picture of the crack do you ?

these cracks now run up to the curve, sat in Dieppe and heard what sounded like popcorn popping and this is what was happening, window opened as in picture on an overcast day.

I had to get 5 of my Polyplastic windows replaced due to delamination. Polyplastic knew about the problem, but carried on making the same windows for at least 5 years. I got replacements from Eeco, but they needed the original windows to copy which meant the van had to go into secure, dry storage.
