Ouch nice scrape

We were on the aire at Lamarche-sur-Saône in France last year which was packed, so we ended up parked just across from the service point.
Lovely hot sunny day, so everybody was lounging outside their vans, when the new looking German MH that was on the last pitch riverside drove his MH all of the 50 metres to the services to empty his khazi. When done, rather than drive the ten metres to the roadway and back to his pitch, he immediately turned right to cut off the corner, but in doing so hit the side of his van amidships with the post and railings protecting the service point and kept going. With the crunching noise, everybody on the aire looked around and those nearby started yelling and waving for him to stop, but no he kept going, gouging the rest of the side of his van and ripping off the wheel arch.
When he got back to his pitch his wife who had watched it all happen due to the yelling and shouting understandably went bananas and stormed off into the distance waving her hands above her head and cursing.
The MH had disappeared by the next morning.
She obviously had no sense of humour.

My sister in law had a rear offside scrape on her BMW C5 caused by a lorry. The driver admitted it and it cost £8k to repair. God knows what that little lot will cost !

Yes that’s the problem with insurance repairs, I wonder how much it REALLY cost to repair, when you add up the materials and Labour etc.

So very sad and expensive makes my ding look like peanuts. Is the consensus that it would be right hand on left hand road? I don’t understand why the whole side got damaged

If it needs a new side wall then you could double that at least, probably be written off here.
Maybe that's why it's still damaged and ? It could have been bought as an insurance write off ?

My old van was written off for £12k bought it back and had it repaired - cost 2k, including bespoke rebuild of the window, you would not know where the damage was apart from a shiny new window, I actually argued the write off with the insurance company because I knew the repair was minimal but they wouldn't have it, so yes I earnt out of it but somebody paid along the way!

Thats what happenes if you let if you let Paul Merton drive instead of his wife
On amore serious note that must be soul destroying to have your van damaged to that degree

Many moons ago our Swift caravan got caught in a hail storm, the insurer was prepared to right if off, but a local caravan repair place, said they could source another side panel for the van, cut the spaces for the widows and vents and bond it over the damaged side panel. So we went down that route, you would have to have known there was a double skin, it didn't bulge and was not in anyway noticeable. Is that sort of repair an option for coach built mohos. It did not take long to fix at all and did not disturb the existing seals.

What a shame, lovely Motorhome.

Stupidly I punctured the fibreglass rear side bumper moulding.
It was raining heavily and I didn't get out to check my clearances. Rear view mirrors also spattered with rain drops.
Anyway, it's done now. Not affecting use but I hate that when everything else is so nice and cared for .... So, I'll be looking for a fibreglass fabricator.

I’m sure it is a bloody shame and posting pics wouldn’t really make the owner feel any better. I wonder what they would have said if you asked them if they’d mind you posting some pictures of it online?
Dunno didn't ask . Would it have made him feel better or you for that matter if I'd posted pics of his brand new pristine one and said I admired it

Did the same damage to my Dethleffs in Portugal a few years back. Insurance couldn’t find anyone to repair so they wrote it off and gave us full value for the van. Bingo! Newer van purchased. Sad dude was that we’ll never get another like the Dethleffs for build quality.
