Every time we go to France I have a worrit about the big tunnel being closed as we approach Rouen from Calais. I have visions of finding us stuck under a bridge somewhere.
Has anyone had to divert and if so is it well signed?

If you’re heading south just follow signs for Le Mans
This route takes you on the ring road around Rouen centre

We've been travelling via Rouen in both directions for a few years and never come across this tunnel.

As you travel down the hill towards the city we follow the signs for Pont de l'Arche which takes us to the left bank of the river.

Not a bad overnight stop there too.

I think the tunnel the OP is talking about is the one you come through down the hill before you turn off

Never seen that closed

There is another tunnel that others seem to worry about, but your route via Pont de L’arche which was our option before finding La Mailleraye avoids that

If the tunnel is ever closed, there will be a diversion. As all diversions in France, it will be well signposted, but remember if you are diverted onto another road, don’t turn off till you see another sign, and don’t follow your sat nav unless you are absolutely sure you are either clear of the diversion or your route takes you somewhere else.

Thank you, it’s the big tunnel as we come down the hill that I was thinking about. We usually travel via Pont de L’Arche, Marboue, Poitiers. We like Malleraye but I’m not keen on the route via Le Mans I prefer Evereux, Dreux Chartres if we are staying off the Autoroutes.

I have been diverted by the tunnel being closed. Cannot remember much about the route but wasn't a problem as it was late at night. The main issue in Rouen is the underpasses which a non-campervan sat nav would take you through decapitating your van but is only an issue if one of the bridges is closed or you go off piste and easily avoided if paying attention.

I once missed the correct turn. The route then involved a VERY interesting navigation of the inner routings of Rouen. With 32ft of R-V and a Twin axle Trailer with a Car on it.! BTW that was before we had a Sat Nag, I was routing using a GPS dongle and "Autoroute" on a laptop. which SWMBO was "Voicing".!

In that case is my video any help ?

We always use La Mailleraye and then follow your route via Chartres.
It’s really not a problem.

Looking at a map it seems quite out of the way getting back towards Chartres, which way do you go, please.

Yes, going via La Mailleraye is quite a big diversion but we just like La Mailleraye. It’s certainly not as quick as going via Rouen.
After leaving head south towards Bourg-Achard and then take the A13 ( non peage route is alongside) and then N154 past Evreux.
If you want to save a couple of euros you can bypass the peage but it means a couple of ‘Micky Mouse’ sections with plenty of roundabouts.

A couple of weeks ago we were heading for Pont de L’Arche just as it had got dark and found for the first time ever, the tunnel to be closed. A diversion was in place taking us off to the right and to follow the designated signs (as stated on the closure sign) which although was a bit annoying when only a few miles from our destination, it was easy and brought us back onto the main road the other side of the tunnel. We then took our usual turn off soon after to take us down the left side of the river to Igoville and Pont de L’Arche.
Usually we go down this way through the tunnel during the morning but this time it was evening. I think they often close the tunnel overnight for maintenance purposes and so the signs for the diversion, when once diverted away from the closure are permanent signs (in yellow and I think S1 in our case) so good/easy to follow. It only added a few minutes to our journey.
