I am due to take a DVLA Fields test. Just gone 70 and have Glaocoma, been on two year licence for the last six years. Noticeable loss of vision in right eye, upper half. When reading with only right eye I can read the text but cannot see the line above the one I am reading. I regularly attend Southampton Eye hospital with six monthly fields test which is done one eye at a time where they put a special lens on front of my eye

The DVLA test is done with both eyes open using 'the glasses you drive with' and no special lenses. As the fields test entails looking into a dome, about 40cm from eyes and wearing varifocals, I worry that the upper/distance part of the lens will make it harder for me to see the tiny dots of light projected on to the dome. Should I wear reading glasses instead?
For info Specsavers do the test using a Humphrey 740i.

I wear varifocals but I think it’s hard to give an answer but my distance part does enhance my vision quite well.🤔 And I use Specsavers😊👍

I am virtually in the same situation as you, no vision in my right eye, ( can detect patches of light and dark only) on drops for glaocoma and took the same test a couple of years ago. I had to do it several times but eventually they were happy my eyes were good enough.
I wear varifocals and didn't find they caused any problems.
I found that concentrating on staring at the red dot was giving me problems and once I relaxed, it was ok.
I don't find driving our van a problem at all, if anything, I probably concentrate on my driving a bit more, which can't be a bad thing.
The only tip I can give you before the test is to try and relax, difficult, I know, but thats it.
Good luck.
