I have tried every way to open the water cap on the van to no avail can anyone help please?I have an Auto-Trail thanks

I am having a similar problem with my fuel cap which is very difficult to turn.

I have it in mind to create a 'Boss' with three bolts screwed into it to fit into the three 'teardrop' sunken parts
of the cap.

I have purchased three bolts of a suitable bolthead diameter which I intend to grind
into a round rather than hexagonal head. (I'll put a slot in the top to insert them into the Boss.)

On the other side of the Boss I intend to insert three smaller bolts, the heads of which will also
be rounded to fit the smaller end of the 'teardrop'
The Boss will be a lump of suitable timber approx 100mm dimeter with a depth again
of about 100mm. That will give me something to grip onto.

All sorted guys we just had to give it a bit of welly thank you very much

If it was difficult to unlock before putting it back(maybe too late) or after put some graphite grease on the key and lock/unlock a few times.

If it was difficult to turn the whole cap, grease the flanges which engage with the fixed metal part, and when you try to open in future give a bit of forward pressure as you turn it.

I'm thinking you both should check the spring inside the cap. Grey shouldn't be that tight you cannot open them.

We discovered that the click we heard wasn't a sign that it was still locked - rather the opposite! so once we figured that out and a bit of a push it opened. we tried it a few times to make sure and am now confident we know what we are doing. When my husband goes away in it tomorrow for his first overnighter - well who knows what help he will need. :)
