Ongoing update on permitted foods to Spain and France please

They only check we have had was the year before last a Calais Euro Tunnel. Not the fridge but the fresh water tank under the bathroom floor. I somehow think they were not checking for a bag of concealed Bratwurst
Many years ago (pre-EU) when tax-free wine import allowances were even smaller, we met a couple who had emptied their fresh water tank and filled it with white wine to return to UK 😂

Years ago a Polish work colleague would take his annual 2 week holiday by driving his self converted van back home to see family, he always returned with his water carriers full of home made plum brandy, he would give half bottles of it as Christmas presents, never knew what alcohol content was but it was bloody lethal 😳

Not sure which bit of Ireland you're in, ....
I'm in the Republic...Co Laois...it's south of Dublin and half way between Dublin and Limerick. :giggle: My county is also the only county in Ireland that is surrounded by 5 counties (Offaly, Kildare, Kilkenny, Carlow & Tipperary) that dont touch the sea. So...I'm officially land locked LOL

I always take just enough bits to last a couple of days, fresh milk, couple of yoghurts and maybe a few bananas, I then tend to shop in Lidl so in theory most of anything I have taken out or back is from from the EU anyway. Mind you, my fridge and cupboards are usually pretty bare on our return. 😂

Always take bacon had it taken just after Brexit so leave in fridge on ferry and hide going through customs normally have enough for about 8 weeks as keeps OK

we have not been checked since the initial start of the B word Spat. We were checked at Bilbao and Santander in the car and Motorhome. But not since.

We have been Via Tunnel, Dover-Calais, Harwich and North Sea with no checks
Came back via tunnel 3 weeks ago.
The whole van was x-rayed and then searched and then checked to see if gas was off.
This was on the return back to Britain.
ALL vans were being x-rayed including small Berlingo types.
It was a first for me too, didnt know you could x-ray a van.

On a slightly different note, we came through Newhaven this morning. EVERY VAN WAS BEING STOPPED AND ASKED ABOUT FOOD, ALL MEAT AND DAIRY BEING CONFISCATED, REGARDLESS OF ORIGIN. Fortunately we had the message in advance thanks to this forum last week and had nothing to confiscate except 1/2 a pint of milk!
Was that going out or coming back to England?

Glad to see that the issue is not being simply left to trust. There's ignorance, wilful ignorance and downright oppositional defiance to deal with and by the sound of it, some people were coming in to the country in one of those states, otherwise there would have been nothing to confiscate. Hopefully we can avoid the F&M outbreak that others on the forum consider inevitable and this is one step in the right direction.
