I'm quite narked about this and would really value your opinion. I had a dealer-fit Omnistor 4200, and by and large, we were fine with it. We then bought the G3 Residence awning sides/front and still happy.

And then it rained heavily in Piedmonte a few weeks ago. And water flooded down the gap between the Omistor and the bus. Next morning I looked up and there are acres of daylight all along the side of the bus, and the Omnistor I just thought that it was flush with the side, maybe sealed with silicone or something, but no.

Ten minutes on google and it seems that the dealer didn't fit a rubber seal. Is this, in your experience, normal practice? Or was I expected to know that I needed one, and should have done more research?

Either way, we need one, so my second question is is this a self fit or does it need to go to a workshop?

Thanks

Mine hasn’t got one either, never has had.

Hi , you can buy it and fit it yourself ,it’s not hard to do it’s a t shaped profile and not many dealers would fit it unless you asked .

The seal is not standard and it really intended to stop muck and leaf debry collecting in the gap.
When our dealer fitted ours, the bracket which is the full length of the awning was bedded on the van with Sikaflex. Once the awning was fitted a bead of Sikaflex was run along the top, so it was completely sealed to the van.

I bought the rubber seal and got it myself. I think it’s an optional extra and not part of the awning cassette purchase. Which is a shame because the cost of s new awning should include one in my view.
However, there were no gaps between the awning cassette box and the side of my mh. But, dirt would collect and then run off causing black streak marks. That’s the reason I bought it, so when it rains it just runs straight off and gets cleaned at same time as rest of the van.
I’m surprised you have a gap between where the cassette box fits the side of the awning.
Maybe should should advise on your make & model of van and ask others to check theirs to compare?

Having said that, I have seen some PVC’s with awnings attached to brackets whereby the bracket it bolted to the roof and they obviously had gaps between the brackets

Thanks all. The gap is easily 4-5mm. The bus is a Rimor 87 Europeo.

I've seen these rubber strips for sale. My question is whether you have to remove the Omnistor to fit the rubber, or do you just cut out the parts where it is joined to the side of the bus? Seriously hoping it is the latter!!

Second question to Lenny really. You say that your gap was bedded and then beaded with Sika. Would you say that I would need to use a rubber strip, and set it with a bead of sikaflex?

Thanks
