Hi guys
My van doesn’t come up on any database for some reason but it’s a 22 model 2.2 fiat ducato and want to grab an oil and filter to store for in between services any ideas what to use apart from Petronas as that’s mega expensive

Any oil that meets the specifation in the handbook I think it's ACEA C2.

I'll be using Petronas in mine as it's under warranty for a few quid more for the odd litre I'm going to use peace of mind. Knowing if you have a serious engine problem Fiat will annalise the oil.

Probably worth doing out of warranty as if something went wrong you might be asking Fiat for a contribution.

I use Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30. This meets the ACEA C2 spec and Fiat 9.55535-GS1, 9.55535-DS1.
It is readily available.

My Fiat professional authorised dealers use Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 0W-30.
I know this because I saw all the empties collected & new 45 gallon drums being delivered whilst I was sat in reception all afternoon.

I was told exactly the same by a mechanic from Iveco. On one hand they will check it, on the other these new tiny engines are very sensitive as they are stretched to the maximum. He also confirmed he’d seen a case where Fiat rejected a warranty case after oil analysis.

Nothing wrong with most oils it's just on vehicles under warranty if you don't use the exact spec oil the manufacturers won't pay out on a claim.

When you buy expensive motorhomes the expensive doesn’t stop when you drive it off the forecourt.

If you run an expensive to buy vehicle that’s takes a lot of hard earned money why not look after it with better quality lubricant instead scrimping about looking for a cheap lesser quality oil .
If oil is cheaper its cheap for a reason

Many years ago I was running a workshop with a Fina filling station attached, I was talking to the Fina rep about their new synthetic oil he mentioned at the time there were only 2 refineries in Europe that could manufacture the base synthetic oil, today there are around 12 worldwide so no matter who's you use it's more then likely from on of the base oil suppliers.
Anyway I use Pemco 332 0W 30 in our Euro 6 Ducato and have done for the last 4 years changed annually. It's cheaper at £21.08 for 5 LTRs then most and I have not had any issues.

Not doubting the quality of the oil but this puzzled me.

Why is there nothing listed under approvals? Recommendations and specifications are manufacturer claims, approvals are independent assessments. Being a grumpy old cynic I am always cautious when something looks like a bargain.

I’d move away from any 0 grade oil as soon as warranty is over. 0 grade oil is for emissions BS, not to make your engine last.
What is so terrible about emitting less CO2, it means I am burning less fuel.

You may emit less CO2, but then the life of the engine, and so the vehicle is less. You can’t lubricate an engine on water, and these new oils are nearly as thin as that, especially when hot. Remember, the manufacturer doesn’t want your vehicle to last, they want to sell more.
