Another question I'm afraid. I thinking of upgrading the data allowance on my o2 account to cover trips mainly into mainland euroupe. For our last trip I took out a separate Vodafone 25g Data Only sim on a rolling 30 day contract at £30pm. The problem is you have to make sure you cancel within the 29 days or you get charged for another 30 days. So even for 30 days it actually cost you 60 days (the 30 days you used plus the 30 days notice period. Back to main question. does anyone have experience of o2 data coverage abroad. France, Spain, Holland, Germany, Italy.

Thanks
Derry

All the data roaming sims will work the same whilst roaming because you can roam onto any of the networks, say if your in France for instance and Bouygues is bad you can use a different network by going into you phones settings and setting network selection to manual and choosing a different say orange. Basically it doesnt matter what UK sim you have, when roaming they are all the same.

Fontie Thanks. I wish I knew that before, I thought you had to stick with whatever network was displayed at the top of the handset (iPhone) didn't realise I could change to other providers. This was the main reason for my original question. Both our business phones are on longstanding (16 years) o2 contracts but we find the data coverage when in Europe terrible, hence taking out a Vodafone data sim for our last trip. The other reason looking to upgrade the current o2 sim's are, each are on self imposed 10Gb limit which doesn't seem to last long when we use the Amazon Fire Stick to watch the odd bit of TV.
Idaelly a 100Gb PAYG would be the answer but these types of deals dont seem to be around.
Once again many thanks for your swift response.

Giffgaff runs off o2 and we’ve had very little trouble getting internet from their partner sites. As Fontie as said, just go into settings and choose another operator if you get crap reception.

Hi Derry, are using a data sim in your Phone, as 02 mobile Broadband Dongles are is UK only info their website about this, we have just moved all our Mobiles to 02 as the signal a home from Virgin was crap, we wanted move our MIFI to 02 but they said its UK so left it with 3

Thanks Phil. Prior to having a 4G Motorhome WiFi antenna fitted in June this year, we used to tether the lap top to my mobile phone via 'personal hotspot'.

On the way home from having the WiFi antenna fitted we stopped overnight at Peterborough, where I put the o2 sim into the new Huawei MiFi device and it worked absolutely fine.

However shortly after, on our next trip abroad (Holland, Germany & France) the Sim didn't work in the Huawei MiFi device so we had to revert back to tethering of the mobile phone.
So for our next trip we purchased the Vodafone Data SIM as mentioned in my original post.

As you suggested I have just read the o2 fair use policy its full of limitations you're not allowed to use the sim in another device such as the MiFi. Like I said earlier the easiest solution for us that travel abroad for a few weeks at a time would be for a PAYG provider to offer c50 -100Gb at a reasonable price, when it runs out it runs out, you simply purchase another.
