We travelled through France ( live there) on 3rd Feb to Mojacar and I and many others we speak to, have never seen as many campers both in France and Spain. The lay-bys here are full every night and the Garda are moving ‘wild campers’ on every evening and morning. All nationalities, Danish, Dutch, Austrians, you name it they are here. It seems that it’s become extremely popular due to COVID, as we’ve seen with the rocketing prices, and also, particularly here because I believe Morocco is still closed to ferries. Camp sites are very busy, and let’s hope that local municipalities realise the problems and consider opening more ‘aires’ or sites. So many spare brown sites around Spain, they could generate a little income for the regions and help with the large influx.

We travelled from Madrid to San Sebastian on Friday and then on to north Charente yesterday and saw very, very few MoHos and campers. The roads were surprisingly very quiet altogether, really.

Most motorhomes are concentrated on the coastal sections, with a few heading slightly inland. We've just been 80km inland from our local coast and the camperstop at Archena was pretty full each night. About half were one nighters, the others seemed to be there for the duration!

A few kilometres further inland we hardly saw a motorhome.

This year has been extra busy, we put it down to Covid, Morocco being closed and Portugal being more strict on free parking!

Next year???

The region of Murcia are expanding the network of Camperstops....it's a costly business which cannot guarantee its success.... building a Camperstop on the coast isn't likely to be a first choice use of available land...
The winter of 2021/22 has been an exception regarding the number of motorhomes...those of us who live here hope it's a one off...there is a great rumbling in some communities which put local council's under pressure to make changes....I cannot imagine it will be to the liking of many winter visitors....but needs must....
